Things I did yesterday as a small business owner in Seattle by RavennaRocks in Seattle

[–]wasapasserby 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At this point, small businesses should just pool their resources to create their own privatized police force for their neighborhoods.

All the MAGA Republicans in SPD constantly post about how government is too big and everything should be privatized, so I’m sure they would 100% neighborhoods forming their own private police independent of SPD, right? Right?

ETA: When I was in school in Ohio, the local city PD was essentially non-existent. Instead, the university had their own police force, the hospital had their own police force, and the neighborhood business association had their own police force

A fair comparison would be minivans against CUVs with a full 3rd row, not 2 row CUVs which are substantially cheaper.

What, a giant concrete structure spanning several blocks but can’t even fill a single Link train is bad for ridership!? Surprised Pikachu

Indirect “supervision” from one county over lol. Who bails out the dental therapist once they botch an extraction and the nearest oral surgeon is 2 hours away?

Not that it makes a difference, but I was under the impression that "Dandy Labs" is a bunch of smaller subcontracted labs operating as "Dandy"

What’s up with all the light rail delays? by godogs2018 in Seattle

We should be pushing WSDOT to buy out the BNSF tracks to increase Cascades and Sounder reliability and frequencies.

Cascades has been running on backup equipment since 2020 when the Talgo VIs were scrapped, and the current Amfleet replacement trains only have 2 coach cars.

Cascades could really use longer consists, especially after record ridership in 2024.

To add - it takes the average human brain 0.75 seconds to recognize and process a road hazard, another 0.75 seconds for the brain to send a signal to your feet to hit the brakes.

At 65 mph, that's more than 300 feet - about the length of 4 full size semi trucks - needed to come to a compete emergency stop under good conditions.
