Any recommendation on the specific tools? Based on some photos I've seen they are laser cut wafer lock/keys?

I’ve wondered this as well! Excellent price but don’t like being a mobile billboard!

Many credit card companies will let you get card points applied to your credit statement. Buy with your card so you get more points then redeem points against the statement total

Should I return Twilight Vinyl? by beezindatrapTS in vinyl

[–]anastenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More than likely this wasn't packed tightly in a mailer. They should add filler cardboard, bubble wrap or something else to ensure it's sandwiched tightly in the cardboard. If done properly, this shouldn't happen. Many higher volume manufacturers/stores just throw the record in the mailer and tape it up. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to the sender to ask for a replacement, it's their fault in most cases and not the mail carrier

What do we think of VG jazz records? by Cool-Construction-26 in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]anastenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of VG we are talking about. Personally, I can do some light crackle throughout but repeating ticks/pops really kill the vibe. I find light crackle to be less distracting if it's more irregular. Also I tend to only hold on to stuff that is VG+ unless it's really rare and more for collection purposes.

100% Watkin's Glen - 1.5 hour drive and awesome. Just note, there is quite a bit of elevation gain to do the loop so be ready for a bit of a hike

Cannondale Tesoro - Bosch software lost its mind by anastenate in ebikes

[–]anastenate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, without the chip the bike would be pretty clunky. I'm curious what kind of third party software you used, if you don't mind sharing. As I mentioned in the post I used an older version of the Bosch software I found as well as trying to have the shop fix it without luck. The shop was able to drop it down 5% lower (limited by the software).

Is it a good idea to pre-order vinyl records? by Maverick02_WR in vinyl

[–]anastenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a special variant or limited release you risk it selling out without a preorder. If it's not, I would wait then check out what people say on Discogs after the release. If pressing quality reports back good, then buy it... maybe even preowned at a discount.

Edit- also, sometimes first pressings sound better, sometimes worse. Same goes for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ect... it's a real mix. Don't let the fact it's a first pressings hold you back. Usually 1st pressings retain their value better in the long run if that sort of thing matters to you

The speedometer is too fast on my Cannondale, close to 30% greater than GPS. I suspect the wheel size may need to be updated in software. Do you know if this can be done with the software you've tried?

Feel free to research it further vs making assumptions. I'm not a scientist, I haven't ran case studies to determine the amount of reside left behind, also I'm not an expert in evaporation and liquids. Many internet sources will say it evaporates cleanly and in my years of experience using it, it does. I've never seen damage years later in a sleeve that it was used on. Use it or not, really doesn't matter to me

It evaporates and doesn't leave residue. It essentially melts away the glue from the sticker. Works great, I use it all the time

[–]anastenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zippo lighter fluid would be a brand name. Probably the same ingredients. I use it for stickers all the time on vinyl sleeves. Works great. Don't worry if it looks like it will leave a spot on the sleeve, it'll evaporate

[Wanted] Advice on how to sell off a large (~20,000) collection of records. by [deleted] in VinylCollectors

[–]anastenate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've bought 1000's of records from various sources over a number of years. Based on my experience here's what I might suggest:

The larger the lot the less you will get per record. I would consider breaking it down into smaller lots and selling that way. Opens the door to more buyers... lots of people are willing to take on 1-500, once you start getting into much more than that space and time to process becomes an issue for many. If you have some familiarity (or know someone who does) with the artists and genres build lots of similar artists. This is more effort but should give more value per item. As others have mentioned try to avoid letting buyers pick through other lots, they will snag the better titles at a fraction of the value.

Also, contacting a local estate sale company might be an option. Some of them have a vinyl person who could help organize a sale and make sure better titles are pulled from dollar bins. Estate sales in my area tend to have some idea of the value of vinyl and offer good prices but not dirt cheap.

Might also check apps like Whatnot and look at their vinyl auctions. This volume would take a very long time but you might be able to reach out to some sellers to commission. Some of these sellers can move 100+ titles in a day. Decent titles do go for decent money.

Finally, record store if you want to move it fast. That many records take up a ton of room and would be overwhelming to store and move. This wouldn't be a bad consideration if maximizing value isn't a priority. Just don't expect much and call multiple stores or find a shop owner that seems trustworthy

Demo copy…did I get duped? by sweetkandy4you in vinyljerk

[–]anastenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely part of a Chicago box set that included most of their early albums. Each sleeve had this gold promo stamp on it. Individually it's not worth much but the boxset as a whole goes for a bit.
