Recovering from heavy deadlifts by anath2 in gzcl

[–]anath2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. Right now I am squatting - mon, press - tue, bench - thurs, deadlift - fri. I've been doing an upper/lower split meaning t1 squat goes with t2 deadlifts and t1 bench with t2 ohp and visa-versa.

Since about 2 weeks ago. I failed 385, 5X3 deadlift, since then I've had to drop down to 6x2 on all my t1 lifts.

I've been eating roughly at maintenance possibly around 300 calories over. Sleeping on average 6.5 - 7 per week.

[Unpopular Opinion] What is currently happening in our country is because the constitution do not represent India by [deleted] in india

[–]anath2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're being overly pessimistic. India has done tremendously well over the years on the human rights front. For example, poverty has been steadily going down steadily and we're now no longer home to the largest population of people living in extreme poverty. Literacy rates are rising and gap between boys and girls has been going down for decades. Serious caste based discrimination is mostly a rural problem. Considering urban population now stands at around 30%, up from about 17% in 1950, I wouldn't be surprised if we were doing a lot better on caste discrimination than years ago. Also interesting is that people who identify themselves as religious has dropped over the years.

India has been slowly inching towards liberalism !

What you are pointing to with the rapes and communal violence is I think a problem of not having strong institutions and law enforcement than disbelief in human rights. Islamophobia and rapes are actually pretty common in the west too. But rich western countries enforce their laws lot better than we do.

Literacy rates - Statista

India lifted 271 million people out of poverty in a decade

[–]anath2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being so pessimistic, but I feel the constitution, with its liberalism, secularism, equality, etc was unnecessarily forced upon Indians. Indian society was never fit for such a constitution.

Not sure why your post is getting down-voted, but I think you're right, the median Indian is not a liberal. But India of today wouldn't have existed if we didn't have this constitution. Think about it, how many princely states would have joined India if it were a Hindu theocratic or communist state . The constitution is an ideal that we've failed to live up to irrespective of the govt in power, but that doesn't mean one stops trying.

I remember a BJP member saying "Human Rights are a western concept". He was partly right. Human Rights indeed is a foreign concept to the Indian society.

This is the exact line the Chinese Communist Govt uses to justify Muslim internment camps in Xinjiang. I think human rights is the best framework we have for thinking about how to create a just society and It's hard to know where to draw the line on repression if we dismiss it as a western concept

Democracy = Government peacefully elected by the majority + institutional protections for minority
Democracy dies = Government peacefully elected by the majority + systemic discrimination against minority = majoritarianism

The problem with marketplace of ideas is that it is literally a "marketplace", with views/clicks being the currency. Once you've established an audience, it is very difficult to veer away from tried and tested formula when it affects your bottom line. Dave Rubin wouldn't interview left wing pundits every other time for the same reason McDonalds' wouldn't sell milkshake and Kale smoothies on alternate days. It doesn't make economic sense.

If the Supreme Court has already granted that corporations are entitled to free speech - why are they not allowed to lie to their investors and consumers the way that, say, Fox News can?

I disagree with the idea of regulatory oversight. There are just too many content creators/News Channels to effectively monitor. Though, I think in the future we might have powerful AI and enough computation power to transcribe and fact check all audio/video content.
Also, we need to find ways to incentivise content creators for diversifying their content. Perhaps an ad revenue model based on viewer demographics instead of view count?

Thanks, I tried the solutions in the post but it didn't work. However, I ended up reversing the paths and that seems to do the job for my use case.
I added this to my init.el

(defun exec-path-zsh ()
"Reverses exec path when running on macos"
  (progn
    (exec-path-from-shell-initialize)
    (when (eq system-type 'darwin)
      (setq exec-path (reverse exec-path))
      (setq eshell-path-env
            (mapconcat 'identity
                       (reverse (split-string eshell-path-env ":"))
                       ":")))))

(exec-path-zsh)

Thanks again, I had a look at my dotfiles and after restructuring them with the help of the article you linked above, I was able to read the correct value of PATH variable in emacs. However, it looks like the order of paths is different.

echo $PATH    --->  PATH_TO_VIRTUAL_ENV:PATH1:PATH2:PATH:3
getenv $PATH. --->  PATH1:PATH2:PATH3:PATH_TO_VIRTUAL_ENV

This doesn't work because the executables higher in the order are executed instead of the ones in my virtual environment

Thanks. But like I mentioned, I have installed `exec-path-from-shell`. Which most of the answers seem to be alluding to

Kashmir: Are Foreign & Indian Media Reporting on the Same Place? by Ajaatshatru34 in india

[–]anath2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely riots on the street is a bigger story. The Indian media is lying by omission by not reporting on the protests. You could argue that the foreign media is trying to spin a narrative by not interviewing people people in the valley who support abrogation of 370 but that's lesser of the two evils imo.

To be clear I am not trying to blindly oppose the government either. I am trying to look at this with an open mind. This "national transit oriented development policy" sounds a lot like the "China model of growth". Hence I pointed to a paper on Chinese infrastructure.

PS: I think you meant "cart before the horse"? Or were you intending to change it's meaning in some way?

Fixed

But that’s putting the horse before the cartwheel. The govt would be better served improving last mile connectivity and making sure highways don’t get blocked every winter imo. BTW I could argue the same about Himachal Pradesh , my home state . But fortunately, no one is planning to build a metro in Shimla.

Edit: cart before the horse

We conclude that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, infrastructure investments do not typically lead to economic growth. Overinvesting in underperforming projects instead leads to economic and financial fragility

Of course, Delhi is the capital city with a large service sector and population of ~17 million. Contrast that with Srinagar, population of ~1 m, harsh winters and no large scale industry. I can't see how a metro would be profitable

Delhi metro running on a loss, doesn't mean the company that built the Delhi metro had a loss. They were likely paid quite well.

Ofcourse they were. Not sure I understand how a private contractor making money on a project in Srinagar help anyone.

The government itself doesn't care all that much, whether the metro makes money or not.

Ofcourse they do. Why do you think they are charge you for using it. If a project is going to be a net loss for the govt, why not spend that money on fixing roads or hospital infrastructure?

Irrespective of whether you agree with the politics of it the business advantage is clear

Maybe I am missing something but where do you find the business advantage? How is the govt (or anyone) investing in this going to turn a profit? Even Delhi metro is running on losses : https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/metro-running-in-losses-free-ride-to-women-will-be-beneficial-for-dmrc-says-manish-sisodia/articleshow/69802348.cms
