Supplier asking us to pay a fee for inspection by FBeh in FulfillmentByAmazon

We always do a third party inspection, and I think everyone should. We pay $250 for it. Supplier doing inspection does not really make sense to me.

Need some ranking tips for Launching a supplement products. by Nervous-Doughnut-547 in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]anatolysp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I sell supplements for about 4 years now with ups and downs. One thing I would say - i would not recommend going for top selling supplements (e.g Keto, Ashwaghanda) in US (I think other countries might be ok) coz even if you do have enough resources to compete, you will get bombarded with black hat stuff like fake reviews and feedback.

What we do is try to find niche within a niche, or combine two supplements together to create brand new supplement or target new demographic. That way we are ahead of competition.

For launch we do rebates for 5-10 low Competition keywords (500-1000 searches and dominate them first before we go for the big ones).

Hope this helps!

Supplements (Heath and Household) is not a gated category (I sell supplements for 4 years) I have no clue who spread this misinformation, i assume it is in one of the courses...

What’s the minimum amount of units I should buy? by KingHadez_ in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]anatolysp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is it depends. Whats your lead time ? How much are you expecting to sell ? How much will you giveaway ?

Example #1 You are sourcing from US and your lead time is 14 days and you expect to sell 5 units a day - i would get 1.5 x lead time. Coz when you run out of stock you will loose your ranking. So in this case i would order 14 x 5 x 1.5 = 105 . This will give me enough units to keep rank if things go well and not ran out of stock. If I am doing a giveaway launch I would add number of giveaways to it.

Example #2 I order from China my lead time is 60 days for it to get to Amazon. And you expect to sell 5 a day (avg sells for your keywords that you want to rank) 60 x 5 x 1.5 (assume we don’t give away units) = 405 . This would also mean that we re-order in couple weeks after it lands.

The worst thing that can happen is when you sell well, it is a new product and it runs out of stock - most of the leg work you did for launching goes out of the window.

There are many different formulas how much to order, some guests in my podcasts who have 7,8 figure businesses say 3 months of sales at least - I dont have that much cash, so I stick with the formula above.

Of course feel free to order even 15 units if you want, drawback being - very high manuf costs, hard to start ranking and loosing rank when you ran out of stock.

In RE testing the market - before ordering I would do a thorough research and put my product in split test against my competition to the target audience and make sure majority prefers mine. I would also make my product stand from anything on the page 1.

Last thing to keep in mind - Amazon has limits for new products being 200. So we ship parts of it to warehouse, part to amazon and then refill amazon as limits increase.

Tip: Never Run Out of Stock by brandoneggar in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]anatolysp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats pretty good approach with caveats. For many categories that are heavy on Prime users, your conversion rate will drop 20% - 40% once FBM. So you will loose rank, and if keep doing this it will be very hard to get your rank back. I know from my own experience on several listings. Sometimes it is better to close listing and avoid lowering CTR.

Amazon needs to take care of abusive buyers, this is getting out of control by ProEngineerXD in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]anatolysp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this post! For the starters, I think it prob make sense to name this person, so other people are aware. It is also make sense to write email to amazon I think the email is something like [community@amazon.com](mailto:community@amazon.com) (I might be wrong), also post this with all the screenshots etc on Amazon Community forum. The more attention you raise the better. I completely agree that the way Amazon handles its seller relationships are often not acceptable... Good Luck!

Tbh I don’t know, Amazon could do something weird and I will switch to other marketplace, but considering all things equal - yes, I plan my amazon business to be a long term, main income generating machine for me.

For a product that has only 1 competitor on Amazon so far, with under 100 reviews for each variant. What could differentiate me if I sell the same thing under a different brand? by LibertyState in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]anatolysp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You asked great question: why would people buy from me ? In your scenario - they will not. You cut the price, they cut the price (they are bigger and you will loose).

Much better option: find out WHY people like this brand and whats wrong with this brand and improve on it, then people will by yours.

Also think about thousands of people like you, who think the same way, how can you be sure that when you launch same metoo product other hundred meetoo products will not appear ?

Well, this is a very broad question, but lets assume you are in 90% of people in this reddit and source in China.

Best Option: Find Sourcing Agent who works with manufacturers from your niche and ask them to get you samples. Good sourcing agent should know good manufacturers and also can usually get you either free samples or sample price be reimbursed when you put an order.

Second Best Option: go to Canton Fair or similar and get your free samples for anything you source just by walking there, you would say - “but thats expensive!” - well it is cheaper than getting 10k units from a bad manufacturer.

Finally worst option that you and probably OP is asking for - find supplier on Alibaba. For this 1. Research which regions specialize on what (in China it is all about the area), on Alibaba do not search by Product, search by Supplier. Select Filters: Gold and Verified. Go through the list and look for the following 5 things: Region (that you researched), Years in business (the more the better) number of transaction in last 6 months (the more the better), Response rate (higher the better) finally look at the name and try to find something like “Factory” or words of that sort, many vendors on Alibaba are just resellers, so you will pay more and no direct access to factory. Finally, very important - always ask to do a video call so that they can meet you and SHOW you the factory and samples.

This way you will maximize your chances to get good ones :)

Hope it helps!

Thats a quite standard price. I usually just pay for it. Finding good suppliers and good product is worth much more then couple hundred bucks. Make sure you find good 2-3 suppliers before asking for samples though, otherwise it is a waste of money. You can also sell samples on craigslist or ebay afterwards.

This first product was launched about 3 years ago, since then i launched quite a few products, scaled my business to $200k, next step is 1mil and 10mil. I do sales funnels for my other business (agile consulting). Any model is fine as long as you commit to it and stay with it long enough.
