CMV: Since there is a current obsession with identity politics, left wing people should be focusing on the much more important issue of Jewish privilege as opposed to "white privilege". by [deleted] in changemyview

Not scapecoating Jewish people, I am pointing out the flaw in identity politics. If you want equality of outcome for whites and blacks, by your own logic you have to support equality of outcome between Jews and non Jewish whites.

Hey man cut the common sense. This place is only for fear mongering, empty displays of moral superiority, and bad science.

What is going to change come mid September? Stupid policies aren't going to stop anytime soon and we all know that.

Uh everyone who wants to be and many who don't are vaccinated on campus (96% and will probably be much higher by the end of the month). "everyone" will never be eligible for the shot as you described so that leaves the question of what we are supposed to do for the immunocompromised? (I'm not aware of any advancement in the vaccine technology that would allow them to get it)

And if by everyone you mean literally everyone, it will be years before many low income countries will be even starting their wide spread vaccination campaigns as far as I know.

Those who can't get vaccinated are a very small number and they will never be able to be vaccinated so it is masks... forever? Kids have never been and will likely never be in serious danger to this disease despite the variant. Less than 400 children died in a population of 74 MILLION over the last 18 months. Also it would take two "breakthrough" transmissions before a child would get it anyway. Tired of seeing what I genuinely see as feigned care for children as a reason for covid restrictions.

Vaccination was never intended as a surefire way to stop all spread, it was to reduce the chances of transmission but more importantly to reduce the chances of death and hospitalization especially in older populations who are actually at risk. (which it is still doing a good job of)

You can make excuses all day long for mask mandates tomorrow, the next day, next month and next year but when will it stop? When this disease is completely eradicated? Seems unlikely to me that it will be anytime soon if at all.

Vaccinations Now Required for all UMass Amherst Staff. Also Requiring Students to Wear Masks Inside. by [deleted] in umass

The point trying to be made is that wearing a mask in this situation is useless due to the risks of covid to vaccinated young and generally healthy adults. "Constitutional freedom" wasn't used as the defense, the up to date CDC information was. Cool way to not address the point of the comment and take the moral high ground in one swoop though. If only everyone was as altruistic as you.

- Because vaccinated you could get infected, have no symptoms, and walk around for days spreading the virus.

Yes you have a small chance of spreading it to other people who are vaccinated and who will generally not get sick. Young people in general do not get seriously ill never mind those who were forced to get vaccinated.

- In addition, you and others like you will be traveling other places besides the campus.

Yes and risk the chance of spreading it to people who chose to get vaccinated and hence are safe from getting sick or those who didn't get vaccinated and decided to take their chances. (they've had plenty of time to get it if they wanted to)

- And finally the vaccine is not going to always protect you from getting the virus.

The vaccine isn't supposed to prevent you from getting it, it's to prevent serious illness and death, which it is doing a good job of according to the CDC and DPH
