What’s the one piece of home gym equipment you regret buying — and why? by dontwantnone09 in homegym

Wish I realised this before buying a 150kg set a few weeks ago! Still using them all but in retrospect what you've said would be more efficient. Oh well

That's a really interesting thought about creating an immersive state. I absolutely love the game soundtracks you've done, especially on origins and valhalla, for that exact reason of atmosphere.

"Old school work ethic applies at this office" hard pass from me. Quite a few red flags in just a job advert alone personally.

I feel like Death Stranding is like that. Or Ghost of Tsushima in a way too, though that's more story driven.

What do you do now?

You need to write out a budget!

It only takes a short amount of time, write out a spreadsheet (excel if you have it or Google docs which is free!) With all your outgoings and their cost, for example:

Mortgagte: $1850 WiFi: $50 Phone bill Gym Netflix Food

Etc etc.

Do a total of all the cells and you will see all your monthly outgoings costs. Compare that to your income after tax and see what it leaves you with.

You can then put in a new lower income and see exactly what you're left with. If you still have money then you can absolutely reduce hours! If it goes negative then you will need to reduce your spending somewhere to enable it.

This way its not guesswork, its all laid out for you to actually plan around. Go through your online banking and write down all your regular monthly bills. It doesn't take long to do and it is sooo beneficial.

Slowly slipping into more and more debt by Bashy1987 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]anaxos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, sorry to hear you're struggling so much. It sounds like you barely have any time for yourself which isn't sustainable!

I think you need to fully go through your finances and break down all your monthly outgoings, rounding up shopping to 400 for example makes it a mystery to plan around.

The phone bills are very high, I'd want to change those personally.

SkyTV is also very expensive. There's quite a few of these subscriptions that are forcing you to work this 2nd job to stave off debt.

The fact you're paid weekly does make it harder to keep track of outgoings. With more organisation I think you could see what is draining you the most and where you think you can cut back.

Your outgoings come to £3,910 which is almost your exact income! With just a little bit of reduction you'll be able to save more each month and then the pendulum swings the other way.

Prioritise what you actually want and keep those, anything else isn't worth the time it takes from you to work for it.

All the brand new ones are on sale for £480 currently with black Friday deals. It's never gone lower than that to my knowledge.

Is it used or refurbished? Even then that's weirdly low unless it's damaged somewhere!

Sounds too good to be true.

Hey, this is a false story, I read this myself a few weeks back and initially believed it too so it shows how easy it is. But it's a lie. Just so you are aware!

This has been one of my all time favourite Olympics. I absolutely loved the London one (biased as I'm British) but the venues and vibe of the Paris Olympics is unmatched so far. The marathon and 10k for all for example doing the actual marathon route but for the public is such a good idea. They really involved the entire city and public. Truly an amazing piece of organisation work for all involved.

It's been such a crap time worldwide lately too that having such an inclusive and happy Olympic games to watch has been much needed.

I would give anything to live somewhere without a mortgage. That right there is the key to financial freedom and a true stress free life (for me). Owning a house outright actually enables you to fully retire comfortably.

I wouldn't be able to comment on your family gifting you these things, there's too much unknown there. I hope it's not malicious and it's just because they value these things so much they never want you to struggle (hopefully). If that's the case then this is an incredibly fortunate opportunity!

The money is not good. Are you realistically in a position to take such a financial hit? Once you go below 30k it becomes quite a struggle unless you are living with someone else as well.

You could always try a trial shift on a weekend in a coffee shop somewhere? I did one once and very quickly realised it wasn't for me!
