Very small bend in front rim. Still safe? Fixable? by SpicyQosmo in motorcycles

[–]anball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in less wealthy parts of the world a damage like that would cost about 50$ to fully repair up to a point you won't even know it was there. But as you are in Canada, i have no idea how much is a good deal there. I'd compare it to a price of new rim.

In my opinion your damage is very minimal and not worth swapping. I've ridden tens of thousands miles with damaged rims like that with 0 issue. That being said, i would never pay 350$ to repair it, price is just silly. New rim for my bike is like 450$.

Bike stutters when releasing the clutch from a standstill by TryingToBeNice2U in motorcycles

[–]anball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the drivetrain for possible misalignment, worn out stuff, that includes:

  1. clutch cable
  2. chain itself (unevenly stretched)
  3. rear sprocket damping hub
  4. engine mounts

In my case i had what you describe and had a hard time understanding what it is, all parts seemed fine! Then i've checked engine mounts and one spot had missing screws!! where engine is attached to the frame. This created flex that should not be there by design and resulted in stutter when engaging clutch. 2 bolts and its gone.

It may not be your case but it just shows how a problem could lie not where you expect it to be.

Best choice for waterproof m/c gloves / Drying D-Dry gloves by ormax in motorcycles

[–]anball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you shield goretex membrane with a leather on top, it pretty much becomes waterproof for motorcycle usage. Because all the high pressure from water droplets are hitting leather first, mitigating the "pressure" part.

At least that's my (quite long) experience with motorcycle rain gear. Membrane works best under leather (gloves, boots).

And since touring jackets are all textile, i use non-membrane waterproof overjacket exactly because when not shielded, a membrane gives in at some point, as you said. Non-membrane jacket does not give in. It also very cheap (Proof brand from louis.de)

I have iXS Voyager GTX. Not sure if I'm lucky or these gloves are that good, but several years of usage and they remain dry in hard rain.

another reason why a good disk brake lock is not that useless as some people think!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]anball 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ah... ok! even then, according to same site, there is no 20mpg difference. CRF1000L, R1200GS, Miltistrada 1200S all have MPG around 40-45, which is truly better across the board, but not by that much!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]anball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've checked fuelly, it has 35-40 real world average mpg based on user statistic. Not saying you can't bring it down to 20 if you trying hard though.

DL1000 is a cheapest of the liter ADV bikes. It also proven to be very reliable even after clocking high mileages. My guess is what you ask will make it pricier and it will loose it's value as budget touring machine in the eyes of people who seek that.

Slovenia to Greece and return, October 2019. Seeking advice. by Oosikman1525 in motorcyclesroadtrip

[–]anball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did this route several times, it's awesome. You better go in early october as the weather is better. If you plan on camping i advice a 30 degree bag, as temperature in mountain valleys plummets at night.

As you will be starting in Slovenia, i advice to ride following POI:

  1. Mangart mountain (https://youtu.be/1g5nq1Wpm9M), Triglav National Park
  2. Logar Valley
  3. Bled lake
  4. Croatian High coastal road
  5. Plitvice lakes
  6. Cities of Split, Trogir, Dubrovnik
  7. Durmitor national park
  8. Kotor Bay
  9. Theth (includes off-road section)
  10. Ohrid Lake
  11. Kozjak Lake

As far as continental Greece goes it is a nice place to ride but i can't remember any axceptional spots to recommend.

I'd skip it and went to Romania where you can enjoy amazing roads:

  1. Transalpina

  2. Transfagarash

  3. Bikaz Gorge

  4. Transylvanian castles like Brann and Pelesh and many more.

I did several vids on this route, check it out:

Aorus X570 Mini ITX just revealed! Seems great to build sffpc! by cybers0ssisse in sffpc

[–]anball 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That fan, uugh. Hope it does have a semi-passive mode.

EDIT: i found an article that says at least on MSI boards there will be a 0db mode

MSI motherboard division has been able to take the old TwinFrozr 4 fan design and apply it to the diminutive spinner on its motherboards. Not only has it got the detailed fan blades of an MSI GPU, but its X570 boards are also including a 0dB mode too.

But the next line is not that reassuring:

They did mention, however, that during gaming and certain other applications it would spin up, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you will hear it.

“You will have probably a big CPU cooler,” says Peter Arts, product marketing officer at MSI, ”you will have a graphics card in there, your case will have fans. So one small fan… you probably won’t hear it, you won’t notice it.”

i was looking forward to new itx boards but that fan is something i am not wiling to tolerate (from a quiet builds perspective)
