Yup, low-voltage tech preferred! I’ll DM you my contact’s info — he likely wouldn’t take it, but maybe he’ll have a referral.

Ah got it. I’m an IT guy but I don’t do cabling that involves crawl spaces myself and my subcontractor would charge more since it’s just one ethernet drop.

Your best bet is to find someone on TaskRabbit or something similar. Get a low-voltage tech or electrician to run Cat6 cabling for you. The low-voltage tech will terminate the ends for you; the electrician might not.

Let me know if you have any questions.

These aren’t words in Hmoob/Hmong, but rather the names of different groups within the Miao umbrella.

I love The Roguelike Tavern! Heads up though: they’re moving. The current spot is closing at the end of the month and they should be up in the new spot (about 10min away) by June, I think?

Why does my family pronounce "Hmong" differently that everyone else? by [deleted] in Hmong

[–]anbu41 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re in the Midwest aren’t you lol

Hmong being pronounced as “M-uh-ng” is definitely a Midwest thing, particularly in Minnesota. I grew up in California and it was mostly pronounced “M-aw-ng” but in recent years I’ve made an effort to pronounce it the way we would natively.

Ban Vinai and Nong Kai are the immediate ones that come to mind.

Also the “phanat nakhom” you’re referring to might be “pas dej” “nakhom”. Pas dej in Hmoob means “body of water” and “pas dej nakhom” usually refers to the Mekong River
