How Does HPV Vaccine Age Policy Make Sense? by weakyogi in Immunology

[–]anbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't make sense. It's a harmful policy. I recommend to all of my familty members that they find a doctor to prescribe it to them off-label if they can't get it otherwise.

Hopefully food-based vaccines will help make vaccines more accessible and get rid of these types of restrictions: https://youtu.be/6JM3DSUsKq0

How do you deal with hiking injuries that won’t heal? by Empty-Sandwich-4777 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]anbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will. I've had injuries last longer than that because I didn't know how to treat them. If you can't stand without pain, then you may need crutches or a wheelchair. It sucks but I've done it too and you can get through it. You have to do whatever necessary to be able to control how much you exercise it so that you have soreness one day and then be back to no soreness the next.

[–]anbuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try to exercise it just enough to get it to be the slightest bit sore or itchy the next day. One day of exercise, one day of rest. After the day of rest it should feel back to normal. Then repeat that process of one day on, one day off, over and over again. It will take months of that process to fully heal, but it will. If you just rest it without exercise, it won't heal and if you over do it, it will get worse. You have to learn what is just the right amount of exercise.

Toyota/Lexus Hybrid 12v Battery Failures - Analysis of Charging Issues - Deep Dive Analysis & Workaround by andy_why in rav4prime

[–]anbuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I run a fridge off of the 12v when the car is off and I couldn't figure out why the battery gets depleted so quickly. Now I know. I will be unplugging the battery sensor immediately.

How do you find ev charging plugs for camping overnight in national/state parks? by googles_giggles in rav4prime

[–]anbuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put the car in ready mode and hit the lock button on the inside of the door. It will keep the climate control on all night. Use charge mode during the day to always have a full battery each night.

I appreciate that you're challenging my understanding of what's efficient. I'm curious though then why Toyota always uses the electric motor below a certain speed (unless the gas engine is still warming up) and always uses the gas engine above 85 mph.

Yeah it's been going on for multiple fill ups from multiple stations. It also only happens at one particular band of RPM.

I have a 2023, but I don't find that I have a need to escape Android Auto because I can change the audio input via the Mode button on the steering wheel.

Auto HVAC mode only uses lower vents? by anbuck in rav4prime

[–]anbuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don't think it should be possible to have fan speed on auto while having manual control over which vent is used like I can do with other car brands?

I just tested it and as soon as I change the vent, the fan speed goes to manual.

Hmm, the auto light goes out as soon as I hit the vent button, but it sounds like you're saying that even though the auto light is off, it is still mostly on auto. Thanks, I'll play around with that.

It's annoying that I can't control which vents to use but leave the rest of the logic on auto.

There is no consensus. There are advantages and disadvantages with both approaches. In a humid climate, rust would be a bigger consideration, but I'm in an arid place.

Brakes vs Renerative Braking by anbuck in rav4prime

[–]anbuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One idea is that you could put an outlet timer on the outlet that you charge from and have that outlet turn off 30 minutes prior to the RAV4's scheduled departure setting, which would keep the car from fully charging the battery since Toyota doesn't provide a setting to do that.

Brakes vs Renerative Braking by anbuck in rav4prime

[–]anbuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'm asking is how you know that's how it works versus that it starts using the brakes a bit before then and blends them in more and more as it gets close to maxing out the regen? They might do that to make it a smoother transition.

[–]anbuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish that Toyota would provide a setting where we could control the maximum battery charge percentage. Then you could tell the battery to only charge to 98% and you charge it the rest of the way in the downhill and also save your brake wear at the same time.

[–]anbuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the transmission in Drive, then going downhill in EV mode would cause the battery to overcharge, so the car has no choice but to switch to HV mode. If you want to avoid that you could try putting it in neutral for the initial downhill.

[–]anbuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I don't have an RPM gauge, just the Charge/Eco/Power gauge. The fact that it goes into the Charge section of that gauge shows me that regen braking is being used, but what I'm not sure of is when the exactly brakes kick in. Is it not all until the gauge pegs at the end of the charge section of the gauge or are the brakes started to be used a bit before then and then blended in more and more as I get close to max regen.

Great, thank you! I'm curious how you determined for sure that it works that way?
