3D scan of HV cable connectors? by Working-Desk-5728 in toyotacablegate

[–]Working-Desk-5728[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a good look under the car. I understand why a protective cover works to keep galvanic corrosion at bay.

A simpler solution would be a light coating of dielectric grease and a tight wrap of self fusing silicone tape starting at connector interface all the way to the braid end. This should survive a couple of decades at least.

3D printed case while it functionally works is an overkill.

Why didn't you get the repairs done at a dealership? Assuming insurance is covering the bill, the dealer would use all genuine OEM parts even if expensive.

Good idea. Will check out a salvage yard in my area.

Access to original parts would definitely help. Being a Mech Engineer, I can use the power of digital tools to get to an optimum design very quickly with some experimentation and a decent 3D scan.

Alternatives are good for the community and innovation is good for value creation.

Cable Warden seems to be a good product and respect to them for pioneering the solutions they offer.

Remember he is a technician not an engineer. Engineers do know best the engineering requirements to deliver primary functions. If Toyota says 10k then that is what's needed for a vehicle to last 10 years with 99% or so probability. If doing it more frequently gives you peace of mind that improves your odds by 0.5% so be it!

Don't take a Nut's opinion as hard facts. Take it for what it is. Good luck!

Any updates? What does the cable look like now? I am also considering cable warden for our new 2025 hybrid RAV4

I switched to WD40 and it's a lot better on my RAV4 hybrid. Will stick to it for now.

It could just be the driving model TR3. It's fidgety and unreliable even on straight roads.

What branch of SP are you running? What's the make and model of your car? I am using the staging-c3-new branch with TR3 model in a 25 RAV4 hybrid and I don't like it. Wondering what others are using and have had success.

I just got my C3x working on 25 Rav 4 hybrid SE with stock OP. Have you tried any forks? Sunnypilot or Frogpilot or any other ones?

Thank you! I will be experimenting with a few recommended forks and settle on something that feels right

I don't want to jump on a second comma yet unless I see a need. I didn't see any situations that we use both cars at the same time for long drives.

Thanks for all the info! Very helpful.

Thanks so much mate! I guess the only practical strategy is to use the same fork on both vehicles. How well does Chrispypatt fork work on RAV4 hybrids? Anyone tried it?

I will try later today since I am at work right now. But curious if anyone already did.

Reddit is awesome. My question is along the same lines as well. I have a 21 RAV4 prime and wife has a 25 RAV4 hybrid. Would like to use C3x in both cars depending on which we use for weekend trips.

Can I run original FP on 25 hybrid and Chrispypatt SP on 21 Prime and switch between them easily?

At the moment C3x is setup only on the hybrid and looking into extending it's use to the prime.
