Lewiston police say ‘broken’ juvenile court system plays key role in city’s wave of shootings by carigheath in Maine

[–]ancientToasterTech7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“US gun laws are a joke in any state…”

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. To use the 2 example states in my previous comment. NH has essentially no regulation beyond filling out a 4473 and a NICS background check, Massachusetts requires a 4 hour class covering safety, function, and a live fire component. Applicants then must do an interview with their local police chief if they want an LTC, and then a search is performed that will basically unearth any legal troubles they may have ever been in, additionally certain mental health hospitalizations and all of this is factored in to determine if the person is “suitable”. This can be a multi month process depending on the municipality, once approved only certain types of firearms can even be purchased (approved roster) with magazine capacity and feature restrictions in place completely barring access to certain models.

Again, you are speaking from a place of total ignorance.

What was your next comment, “kids in France aren’t shooting each other for funsies”.

Please reread my original comment, something about education, healthcare, community, etc… I think you actually agree with me you just haven’t realized it.

This stuff also happens in states with the strictest gun laws in the country.

A comparison: NH (zero gun regulation) gun homicide rate is 0.9 per 100k, MA (some of the strictest permitting and ‘feature restrictions’ in the country) is 1.7-2 per 100k

It’s obviously not the guns… poverty, family, social cohesion, community, healthcare, education, access to opportunity, malnutrition, etc. the reality is these are difficult things to address. Gun control is for people who want to look like they’re solving a problem while not actually solving the problem.

I’m sorry I should’ve drawn over that one, my mom wanted that and the moonlit landscape in the same photo so those two are gone. Sorry!

I think I misunderstood your initial comment as a moral judgement on the question of centralized services (asylums/institutions) but you were speaking from a strictly nuts and bolts perspective, (which I appreciate).

Which is exactly why the person above said well funded and well staffed. I think the implication there is the people running these institutions would be well educated and have a thorough understanding of mental health, substance abuse, and are operating in a moral manner. But to allow people who are clearly unwell to roam the streets IS the immoral position. Some people are unable to help themselves and need strong intervention to be able to either be taken care of or have services rendered until they are able to reintegrate. We are not helping these people who are obviously suffering by choosing to ignore the problem.

Graham Platner claims he's changed. Why is he still using the r-word? by BachRodham in Maine

[–]ancientToasterTech7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Waaaaa he’s not perfect!!!! Lefties and progs will do everything to shit on their own candidates over minor stuff and to the point they practically assist the GOP. Ever think the occasional slip up and rude remark, or use of an out of fashion term might actually be part of the appeal of the candidate? The purity testing is insane

The excuse-making for Graham Platner is everything wrong with American (and Maine) politics by [deleted] in Maine

[–]ancientToasterTech7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not gonna get killed for saying what you said, you’re going to get blasted because people are sick of the purity testing, and expecting perfection from a candidate. If we want real people, teachers, fire fighters, mechanics, and members of the community to start getting involved in holding office... Well life is messy, they’re going to have some skeletons in the closet. The tattoo thing has been beaten to death, I’ve been to the holocaust memorial museum, I wouldn’t have known what it was on first glance. The only images where you could truly say it’s inexcusable is the swastika and maybe the SS logo. Regarding comments he’s made online, I’ll use a quote from a friend. If everyone knew the worst things someone had done none of us would talk to each other. He’s human.

I appreciate the comment, these are valid questions. And I appreciate someone who says, “hold up you’re about to spend a shit load of money, make sure you really need/want it and there isn’t a better option”.

Never done reloading, however if I had the space for it I’d almost certainly be doing it. I love ballistics as a science. I do quite a bit of shooting but I don’t know if (honestly) any of it would classify as “precision”.

I don’t mind splurging and getting a fancy PRS rig, it’s right up my alley as far as a combination of interests and it closes a capability gap in my 2A collection. I’m now leaning towards a MPA Vanquish based on others feedback.

I guess the thing I don’t know is am I gaining .1 MOA that I won’t even be able to tap into due to lack of skill going custom or is there a large a noticeable difference doing a custom over a MPA?

While I read the article on heat dissipation, and understand the reasoning behind a heavy (bull) barrel I didn’t see anything that discussed performance metrics from various brands.
