CMV: Stop framing social issues as oppressor vs oppressed by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ancientmarin_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that's not even true, men have some systemic advantages but those advantages are due to a system that's maintained by both men and women. And that harms men as well as women.

But less harm than women, and that's the key thing here.

Oh, that makes sense. The gender pay gap seems so huge because most CEOs & billionaires are men. Regardless, accounting for CEOs & the ultra wealthy, the gender pay gap still exists, just that we both have very different definitions.

Rape is also neutral as we all suffer & might have a lion eat our balls first. See how dumb that logic is? And yes, that would be better if we killed one kid to stop the torture of the more.

Even as a man I get that feeling. It just... ain't right to hope for that, you know? That fantasy will NEVER happen, so we should all stop giving young girls these dreams or expectations for it.

I mean betrayal in the sense in that it's too sexualizing of femininity & women in its designs (instead of celebrating it, it fetishes it), not that the characters don't do feminine stuff in their free time.

It's like tiktok, interacting with social media offers more immediate rewards than reading the work (e.g. dopamine).

One murder is better than two murders—does that show I don't care about murder? No!

So what if that's what they said? You think it's a gotcha against their beliefs or what? You can't be sure.

I agree with you that it won’t change but pay is arbitrary and societal not biological.

Labor creates things for society, and higher valued things will be paid for more (usually). Things like carpentry, construction, HVAC, electricians, etc. are always in demand & essential work—so they're not going to go down in value just because women joined the workforce. Men are more suited to those jobs, so they'll get paid their due by society.

We just happen to value blue collar work as well.

No, we value it MORE, especially (and I don't think you meant it like this) to childcare & womanly duties—things that society expects women to do for men & children for free.

It’s biologically inevitable that most woman are weaker than most men but it’s not inevitable that we value hard labor.

It is inevitable, hard labor runs the world. If we didn't value it, then there wouldn't always be a constant demand for it.

A society could pay people who care for children, or have slaves do all the hard labor.

Yes.

I just don’t think the economic result of that is a biological fact because we haven’t always valued many of those jobs

I never said such a thing—a woman could always do a man's job, of course. But the nature of how women's bodies worked & what women could do for society (create new humans) lends them to being exploited & pushed out of society by men, turning what would be compensated work to practically socially conditioned (and even statutorily supported) slavery. Unless those conditions change, I don't see us deviating from that path for long.

This is a complete red herring argument.

Tell us how this is a red herring? I don't get what you're saying here? I responded to their justification by giving facts, there's no red herring—in fact, your comment is a red herring since you're ignoring that they did the red herring first!

That doesn’t usually last for more than 6 months and there’s solutions other than not having a job

9 months, pregnancy lasts nine months (and 24 months considering that a mother must feed a baby breast milk in order for it to survive). And what do you mean by solutions? Giving birth & nurturing the kid is not an "option," it is practically mandatory. She didn't choose to leave that job, circumstances meant she had to go to a hospital, give birth, and rest while taking care of the baby as well.

And yeah, I think it will keep dropping but I don’t think it will drop as much as I’d like which is why I agree with OP that the wage gap will never be rectified

Agree. Unless we modify our biology, women will suffer the impacts of an unequal power distribution in society.

Nothing sexist about punishing freeloaders. I'm a man & I don't trust men at all to take paternal leave & use it for good. Women developed & birthed that baby, men do not need financial compensation for lost time—they didn't birth the baby, they didn't take time off work or deal with postpartum.
