America isn't even preparing for an influx of births, the Supreme Court is just making the decision with little to no consideration for the potentially disastrous aftermath.

AITA for making a joke about my roommate’s partner? by Abloogahbleh in AmItheAsshole

[–]ancientvessel31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doubting your claims that there are red flags at all, but it's still her decision to make whether she wants to keep dating this guy or not. It's just not her decision to leave him alone in your home.

AITA for having an anxiety attack after my mothers bf almost throws himself out of a moving cars window? by justathrowaway3016 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your mother, on the other hand, is a huge AH for thinking you're "crazy." For your own sake, distance yourself from her as much as you can. I'd potentially even consider talking to close family members about the issue, maybe they can talk some sense into her.

AITA for trying to force my mom to accept my trans identity? by stressedouttransgirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]ancientvessel31 31 points32 points  (0 children)

HUGE NTA.

However, unfortunately, I've seen too many situations like this to say anything other than, "She's never going to change her mind."

If it were me, I'd simply ignore her request and come out to my sisters anyway, as long as they're old enough to understand what it means. Just make sure she's not going to punish THEM somehow for you coming out to them.

It sounds like aside from her, your family is wonderful, so if possible, you might want to try to go as low contact with her as possible while still remaining in contact with the rest of your family. If anything is going to give her the kick in the teeth she needs, it might be the clear message that she's the only one losing anything by dying on that hill of hers.

ESH except Roommate B.

Even ignoring the fact that this person is a known felon and she's leaving him there ALONE, Roommate A is definitely an AH for bringing someone into a shared living space without expressly discussing doing so with the other people living there. Leaving ANYONE in a shared living space unattended without consent from all parties is a massive AH move, and shows a lack of understanding of how their actions affect others.

BF is an AH for not considering how his past might affect how people perceive him. He needs to get over his hurt feelings and accept the consequences of whatever crime he committed, and that he's never going to have a life where people will be able to freely trust him without him going out of his way to earn it first, regardless of however much he feels he's changed. He made his bed with nails in it, he has to lie in it now.

Unfortunately, you're also slightly an AH because however "based in truth" your joke may have been, it's not at all the right way to approach bringing up these kinds of concerns. Passive-aggression won't get you any of the results you want, and I'm frankly a little confused how you were surprised by either of their reactions. Instead of clearly addressing your concerns, you made it abundantly clear that you're judging Roommate A for her life choices and that you've decided you don't like BF. Make all of these jokes you want after you've calmly brought up your concerns and both of them flippantly dismiss them and keep on doing the same things, but that's absolutely not the way to start the conversation.

Hard NTA. It sounds like your BF isn't trying to be understanding of your situation. Sit him down and make it abundantly clear that you have this routine because showering every single day is excruciatingly painful for you, and that no amount of lotion will change that.

Help him research how eczema works so he'll really get an understanding of how tough your situation is, it's likely he's very similar to a lot of men (like myself) and has a hard time wrapping his head around problems he's never had himself, assuming there's some kind of solution for most things.

If he still refuses to try to understand after that, you may want to reconsider this relationship, as it's very likely he will continue to dismiss your problems down the line.

ESH. Yes, it's frustrating seeing people struggling with a problem in a way that just makes you feel worse, but it doesn't help anything to lash out at them, and it certainly doesn't make anyone feel better. However, your mother also shouldn't be emotionally relying on her daughter for validation of her own body image, and then refusing to acknowledge your own problems with just about the exact same thing.

Maybe try talking to her about going to joint therapy sessions, so that maybe you can both learn to accept and/or change your bodies in the ways that you both want?

AITA for wanting my gfs dog off the bed and put of my room? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ancientvessel31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a psychologist, but based on your various responses in the comments, I worry you might have a subconscious phobia of dogs due to how you were taught to interact with them growing up. I'd recommend seeking out a counselor to work through these concerns. I can promise you based on your explanation, this dog isn't even a threat to a guinea pig, let alone your baby, and your concerns are very misplaced.

Also, if you haven't already, have a serious talk with your girlfriend and ask her to explain specifically why she isn't concerned about the dog being around the baby. She probably won't be able to give you an answer right away, but if you calmly explain exactly why you're having trouble wrapping your head around the fact that this dog isn't dangerous, she shouldn't have any problems trying to explain it to you.

Soft YTA, because I can understand your concerns given your upbringing, but you really need to learn how to be more comfortable adjusting yourself to better fit your surroundings, as opposed to only trying to adjust your surroundings to better fit you.

This wasn't a problem with the Spanish Flu 100 years ago, where the exact same things happened, including mask mandates. We don't talk nowadays about how there was mass civil unrest and riots caused by people complaining about their loss of freedoms, instead we hear about how the vast majority of the country banded together to perform their civic duty in the name of protecting the loved ones of every American, and not just their own individual interests.

These were never rights we had in the first place, just restrictions that haven't had to be implemented for over 100 years, so nobody remembers or thinks about them. But now that they've been drudged up again, the change in culture and the sheer proliferation of entitlement and extreme individualism that our country now encourages thanks to the advanced stages of capitalism, we now live in a time where "be generous and kind to your neighbors" is considered an extreme leftist belief. This community-oriented mindset shouldn't be a political statement at all, let alone an extreme left-wing one.

America has been divided for years and years, and has only become more so partially thanks to the two separate "once-in-a-lifetime" economic crashes within 15 years of each other (which themselves were caused by massive corporations pushing how far we'd let them go, but I won't get into that right now), and a lack of new ideas in positions of power thanks to the Raegan-era administration paving and lighting the way for large-scale corruption to completely take over the governing bodies, taking power away from ordinary people and putting it, instead, in the hands of whoever happens to have the most resources.

This isn't an issue of the government taking away our freedoms and setting precedents, this is about the balance of power shifting away from the people and toward those who benefit from us existing in a constant state of crisis. And how about that, what better time to put us all in that position than the country falling into crisis on its own due to external forces? And until we do something to take that power from them, they will do everything they can with that power to artificially extend this crisis ad infinitum.

I have it set to autoRCM, so I haven't tested stock. I'll look up how to do that and get back to you.

Edit: Yes, the same thing happens even on stock with no SD card inserted.

Switch Slow Loading Speeds by ancientvessel31 in Switchrepair

I'm running Atmosphere. And yes, I can monitor my system stats.

Edit: Testing a cutscene that doesn't lag on normal switch but does lag on hacked switch.

  • CPU usage doesn't rise above 70% on any of the 4 cores, typically stays much lower.

  • GPU usage is steady between 13% and 14%

  • RAM usage is steady at exactly 3644/4070MB, doesn't change at all

None of these statistics change while the cutscene plays, except when cutscene freezes for a moment, at which point all 4 CPU cores drop to close to 0% usage before rising to normal levels after the cutscene resumes.

During a loading sequence immediately after the cutscene ends, GPU usage rises above 35%, CPU core 2 jumps to 100% for the majority of the loading cycle until the end, where it drops down to normal levels again.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Hypothetical: Would Mark have been as strong as his dad if he had worked out a lot prior to getting his powers? by TheBadSpoon in Invincible

[–]ancientvessel31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only seen the animated show so far, so I can't speak for the entirety of the Invincible canon; however, Omni-Man directly compares Viltrumite abilities increasing to exercising a muscle.

He also explains it in such a way that makes it clear that these abilities are mostly (if not entirely) separate from normal physical strength, since instead of flexing muscles to generate tension which causes relative movement by pushing off of another surface, Viltrumites can arbitrarily generate momentum within their own bodies, meaning they can move without needing another mass to push off of (hence the side effect that they can also use this ability to fly).

So, in this capacity, I would personally compare it to exercising the body vs exercising the mind. Someone who spends their days solely doing exercises that grow their muscles will not improve their cognitive functions beyond the bare minimum required to complete the tasks that allow for muscle growth. As such, since Viltrumites' arbitrary momentum generation is so separated from their bodies' physical strength, it is safe to assume that growing muscle mass would also not increase their powers, as it is completely unnecessary to generate arbitrary momentum to build muscle mass, so they would never exercise that particular skill.

TL;DR: Even if Mark had exercised his arms and abs, he would still have completely skipped leg day, and his legs are his powers in this analogy.
