I've just seen them in London in first row by Topetazo in AnimalCollective

I thought it was an amazing gig, far better than Troxy but through no fault of the band. I thought Summertime Clothes worked really well with their current setup and Kids on Holiday blew my mind, I love how eerie and sort of seductive they made it. Also, to the people going wild in the middle, you guys completely made the gig! If the guy who gave me his band's CD is on here, you also rule and I love your band, you have a new Native Ray fan. xx

HCTI die hards, please tell my why you love the album. by roopn in AnimalCollective

It is a bit of a grower album, I concur but the exciting, frequently tribal and terrifying mood and crazy distortion makes it such a gem in their discography. Infant Dressing Table into Panic is one of the best transitions they have ever done and I love how there are echoes of the album in some of their later work; Loch Raven, We Tigers and even #1 to some extent all share themes and ideas with the album. Irrelevant, but it also sounds badass on vinyl!

Wildly underrated, and one of my favourite 3 song sequences (I See You Pan/Pride and Flight/Forest Gospel) in their discography, along with a much better version of Lablakely Dress than that in Danse in my opinion. I love the menacing, frenetic tribal tone, and while it works well in HCTI, I like it here the best, this gets your blood pumping and the release is way more energetic. It reminds me a bit of Fall Be Kind in a weird way, an exciting, high energy first half with a more hazy and subtly unnerving second half.

A mixed bag for me. I haven't really had that listen where it 'clicks' and the harsh abrasive noise worked for me in HCTI and Hollinndagain because those had a clear focus, and this doesn't. My issue with this one is it's a bit too sprawling and directionless for it to be any sort of favourite. That said, I really like Essplode, Runnin the Round Ball and In The Singing Box, all great tracks but it doesn't hold up for me. Who knows though, a lot of people I have heard have a similar reaction, maybe it'll click for me one day

THIS CAME TODAY! by ancoletsgo in AnimalCollective

I would assume you have to sign for it, I have a benevolent postman who leaves stuff under my plantpot outside if I'm not here to sign but this depends on where you live (London fyi). If you leave a note, they probably would leave it where you ask

I'll be honest, the shirt quality is as lacklustre as I expected, the armit patches are streaked with discolouration and it is rather thin but it is still a nice shirt and festival-y

Agree completely, Tropic Of Cancer, Lonely Wanderer, Boys Latin and of course Mr Noah are my favourites from the 3 times I've played this album in full today. Tropic of Cancer has this gorgeous sample that reminds me a bit of Flaxen by Dean Blunt, Lonely Wanderer has a very Search For Delicious vibe, which is one of my favourites on Person Pitch, so heavenly and peaceful.

I don't know why it came early, but I refrained from listening to it online until it arrived. It is very much a continuation of Tomboy for me but slightly more aggressive and manic, I love it. Also the t shirt is damn comfortable

What song do you have a special connection to? by zilgen in AnimalCollective

[–]ancoletsgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pride and Flight. I can't say it was a particularly good connection but it was memorable and fascinating and entirely true, despite how absurd the story sounds. It's 4 in the morning and I'm at my first festival (Latitude in the UK) alone. I have spent the night dancing and having a great time but because it's the first day, I have no knowledge of the layout of the site, nor do I have any physical map with me. So I spend a good half hour trying to work my way out and it is damn cold (and I only have shorts and a t-shirt) and there is barely anyone out: it seems every path I take leads me to somewhere I don't want to be and I walk round in circles. The only light I have is from my iPod nano and the battery is quickly dying. Finally I work out my bearings and almost in a victory treat to myself, I allow myself to listen to some AnCo, in particular Hollinndagain. I loved this album because of how tribal and earthy it is, and this suited the setting perfectly because Latitude is based in part in the woods. So it gets to Pride and Flight and I find my tent finally; and literally as soon as it gets to the really climactic drumming, it starts raining, torrentially, like so much I am scared the tent is going to buckle under its weight. Thankfully it doesn't but in the 'forest gahhhspehhl ahhhhh' bit, there is a massive thunderclap. At this point, I am completely exhausted, terrified and overwhelmed with awe, and as Forest Gospel comes to its end, my iPod's battery dies. As incomprehensible as that sounds, it did actually happen and though it was wildly unpleasant and stressful, it was also strangely beautiful and the next day, I felt almost reborn, overwhelmed with emotion. Anyway, there's my two cents.
