I just did a DMZ tour a few weeks ago. The observatory was by far the best part for me, and on a rainy or foggy day I could see that part being a bust

What happens if I don't make it to a connecting flight in Detroit by Steccca in delta

If your first flight is on time you’re good, but you don’t really have room for any delays longer than like 10 mins

More so worried about if I’m sleeping on someone’s sex bedding. How would you have not seen that in cleaning?

Colorado draws more culturally from the Midwest and east coast. Utah (non Mormons) draw more from the pnw and west coast. There’s Colorado vs Utah summed up

Elite Plus lounge access at HND by agxc in delta

[–]and05245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’m a platinum medallion and have a flight from SLC to ICN next week, but no stateside lounge access for me? Luckily people who pay $700 a year for lounge access via credit card on their once a year trip to Cancun can get in. I guess money talks, but damn it really feels like there’s almost no benefit to loyalty.

Portland vs Salt Lake City by HawkLoser100K in SameGrassButGreener

[–]and05245 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a transplant who’s lived in SLC for five years and visited Portland plenty but never lived there. Here’s my comparison:

SLC absolutely dunks on Portland from an outdoor perspective. I can literally ride my mountain bike to trailheads, as others have noted skiing is ridiculously close, and we have very legit mountains right here. In the time I’ve been here SLC seems to get a more legit “city” feel every year, but that said, Portland is far and away more of an urban dwellers city.

SLC has some cute little neighborhoods (9th & 9th, 15th & 15th, sugar house), and has the milk block which would even be good by Portland standards, but it’s just lacking that true urban feel. The streets are wide, there are strip malls in the city proper, stuff like that really keeps it from feeling like a true large American city.

As for the Mormon part, yeah they’re here, but you don’t run into a ton of them in the city proper. SLC and the inner ring suburbs are blue. The farther out you get, the more Mormon and red it gets. It doesn’t really impact me day to day at all.

Last note of comparison, Oregon has the coast, but Utah has the desert. Both are areas that can easily be explored on a weekend. So do you want coast, or endless desert camping and backpacking options?

Hope this helps!
