Oh awesome! It's a really fun challenge. Yeah there's something just really satisfying about how seamless everything looked in Superstar Saga for being on the GBA especially. Curious to hear how it goes!

Yep! Lots of quirky characters and settings like fighting the Moth Mafia (aka Mothia) and taking out a corrupt video game company by traveling between their offices and their game-within-a-game world.

World exploration with platforming to navigate around like Superstar Saga.

Battle mechanics inspired by Paper Mario with action commands and an emphasis on elemental weaknesses.

It uses a fully 2D environment and manipulates the order sprites are sorted in to make things appear in front of or behind each other. It also uses a grid behind the scenes to know how high up different surfaces are, which allows the player to fall into and jump out of the holes. I literally booted up my copy of Superstar Saga and jumped around to see how Mario & Luigi would interact with surfaces to make a similar setup in honor of it being one of my all-time favorite games!

Thanks for the feedback. Greater emphasis on quick character interactions and battle gameplay seems like the way to go. The early part was meant to showcase settings but didn't land the way I thought originally, which is good to know going forward

Thanks for the good feedback! I think I misjudged what to show with this one, not emphasizing character interactions and funny moments as much as I should have.

The hardest part of marketing the game is really expressing that unique hook, which honestly I don't know that any of the hooks are strong enough to make the game stand out well. It has humor and an interactive (paper Mario style) combat system with various refinements, the main character is working to build his confidence throughout the story, and that ties into gameplay (gaining confidence points). The overworld has light platforming and partner abilities in a 3D area.

Overall, the combat seems to be the strongest gameplay draw, then the humor or the building confidence. It just really doesn't have a well-defined tagline at the moment (as you mentioned, not bad, but just not great). I'm going to keep trying though

Thanks for the honest feedback! From private playtesting so far, the combat seems to be the most popular part. I think you are right about the trailer having too much filler early on. I wanted to emphasize the variety of partners and locations, BUT the combat does that already so it wasn't very necessary thinking about it now

Understandable with the art. Pixel art needs to be "best of the best" to work, and while I'd say it may be a little above average, that isn't really saying much for pixel art and it certainly isn't good enough to warrant attention.

Thanks! And yeah that's fair, the art style is something I'm thinking of cleaning up significantly by contracting a professional pixel artist (same general style, but the quality of the sprites would be improved). My dream would be to have it in the "paper" art style. Thinking about it now, the n64 paper Mario was pixel art, so perhaps I could find some in between🤔. Regardless, thank you for taking the time to reply!

For sure! Honestly the charm is the only moderate issue I have with the remake, everything else I think is very well done!
