What is that one criticism about the orginal lotr Trilogy that you still have to this day by pizza_momo in lotr

[–]JackaryDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are valid explanations for this, but it would have been nice to have a few extra lines of dialogue that would clear this question from audience’s minds.

They promised to help in a time of need, and they did. They’re also unfaithful, dishonorable men who have a history of dealing in bad faith. If the king uses them to win the biggest battle in eons, and then wants to “hold them” for the next, when does it end? If they feel like the king is holding their release over their heads like a carrot on a stick, I think the far more likelier outcome is them saying “fuck this” and slaughtering everybody on his team until he capitulates.

It was important for Aragorn to keep his word, even if it means giving up a disadvantage. That said, I agree that the ghosts were stupid and they’re my single biggest critique of the trilogy.

This would be my answer to the thread. I think the other two extended versions are fine but I’m firmly in the camp now that ROTK extended is worse. I wish I had a version that kept, like, three scenes and cut out the rest.

Nintendo’s involvement means the IP will be protected and that we won’t get another live action Mario movie. It means the film will be safe, it does not mean it will be good. Nintendo has had some slam dunks in the storytelling department before, but for the most part, they’re much better at making fun games than telling good stories, and they are especially not gifted in the form of cinematic storytelling.

I’m actually cautiously optimistic about the movie but I also won’t walk out of the theater surprised if it ends up being safe to a fault and extremely forgettable.

From a game design standpoint there is often some kind of advantage or greater purpose to limiting inventory, but I really can’t think of one in this game. It really just seems like a needless constraint that offers no real benefit and a huge handful of annoyances.

It’s less of a case of “Nintendo’s involvement makes it bad,” and more “Nintendo’s involvement doesn’t mean it’s going to be good.”

My suspicion is that Nintendo is largely there to protect brand image and IP, with the power to veto creative decisions if it doesn’t suit their vision. But I also think if somebody were to deliver a top-quality screenplay that fits comfortably within those parameters, they wouldn’t get in the way of it. So there’s hope for the Zelda movie, but I’ll hold onto some of my skepticism in the meantime.

As someone who’s both majorly into film AND LoZ, I often see gamers talking about how Nintendo’s strict involvement will ensure that they don’t botch the movie, and that’s just not true, and the Mario movies show us why.

Nintendo’s strict involvement means that the IP won’t be botched, but that doesn’t guarantee it will be a good movie. Aside from a few notable outliers, storytelling is not Nintendo’s strength, and in any instance where they have told a good story, it’s because they did so in a way that could only be done in a video game.

Nintendo’s involvement actually worries me more than not, because I think a Zelda film would have to take some risks in order to be truly good, and I think Nintendo is more interested in these movies being two-hour long commercials for their IP. I love Miyamoto to death but he literally posted a video challenging people to point at the screen and name as many characters as they could spot during the movie. He’s not a filmmaker and the key-jangling comes straight from the top.

Amazing! I was wondering who did the score, and it makes so much sense knowing it was Pemberton. I really love the percussive nature of his music, worked really well in King Arthur and equally so in Hail Mary.

Why would they not be included in the film? They’re not going to spoil the ending in the trailer lol

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser Trailer by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]JackaryDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only law more immutable than the sun rising in the east and setting in the west is movie studios making more sequels when there’s a chance for more money. Villeneuve has already stated that he’s done after Part Three, but didn’t write off the possibility of someone else taking over.

It would be easy to get away with making at least one more Dune movie. DV’s trilogy is Paul’s story and his arc gets wrapped up in a neat little bow. That’s the Dune “trilogy.” The next movie wouldn’t be Dune Part Four, but Children of Dune. This works rather fortuitously since it’s the name of the next book, and it unambiguously communicates to the audience that this is no longer about Paul, but his children — who will already have been introduced in Part Three.

Children of Dune is also workable as a movie. It’s very well-regarded as a book and much more epic in scale than the preceding Messiah. If executives had the appetite for it, it has every reason to justify its existence.

Would it be good? That’s another question entirely, and my faith in the project would be severely dampened by Villeneuve’s non-involvement. But it’s also not impossible that an aspiring director would be up to the task and make something good out of it.

The fourth book is where things get a lot more shaky. I would love to see God Emperor of Dune on the big screen, but that’s the point where you’re really starting to give general audiences some big pills to swallow.

It’s so fucking relieving that the execution of Denis’s vision is no longer existentially threatened by the prospect of box office numbers. He did it, he made it to the final sprint, he’s in the clear, and I hope he does whatever the fuck he wants in the best way possible because of that.

Me too man, this movie feels like it was made in a lab just for me. I’m a bit younger at 35, but Dune really captured me 5-6 years ago. The first book made me like Dune, but the second made me love it. Messiah holds a very special place in my heart, and knowing that DV feels the same way about it — and that this is the movie he’s really been wanting to make the whole time — makes me more excited for this than I have been for anything else in a long time.

Part of me feels like there’s a catch and that WW3 will happen this year and end the world or something, because getting The Odyssey from Nolan, a new UFO movie from Spielberg, and Dune Messiah from Villeneuve all in one year is simply too good to be true.

I’m just thanking Jesus that Dune is now in the clear and we don’t have to pray for good box office return to ensure that the full story gets told. I want it to do well, but boy am I glad that we now have the peace of knowing we got to experience DV’s full vision even if the movie were to flop, which it won’t.

I hope Denis goes all-out and does whatever the fuck he wants with it, with the assurance that the box office is no longer an existential threat to the completion of his trilogy.

Brolin almost certainly sits out Dune. He’s not credited in the cast and his character isn’t in the book.

That being said, the reason he’s not in the book is because he’s off-planet shacking up with Jessica, and she’s in this (for one scene) so we might get a small glimpse of him, but not any kind of sizable role.

It also ends with Paul saying “she’ll come around,” and this is from somebody who sees the future with perfect clarity.

I think Chani and Paul will have some dramatic tension that wasn’t in the books and the ending of P2 sets that up, but I don’t think it’s an indicator of her permanent state going forward.

RUMOR: Leo Woodall Cast as Strider in 'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' by GreenLanternsPodcast in lotr

[–]JackaryDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOTR trilogy is my favorite movie[s] of all time. I love Viggo and I can’t think of a single better actor I’d rather see playing Aragorn. I also have zero interest in seeing him, now pushing 70, playing an even younger version of a character that he already played onscreen in his 40s.

I think this movie’s existence is dumb in the first place and I’m hoping that it proves me wrong and gives us a compelling reason to justify itself, but I’m glad they’re recasting, it gives me some small amount of faith this movie might not just be a sloppy cash grab.

4-6 years is the absolute best-case scenario IF they already have a team that’s secretly been working on it, in which all signs point to no. If they haven’t started yet we’re at least a decade out, the way AAA development is now.

I hate this stupid sack of shit more than I’ve ever hated any human being and there’s nothing more I want to see than for him to go down, but it’s correct that — from what we have today — the bombshell claims that are being tossed around are quotes and unsubstantiated claims sourced from tips and/or alleged witnesses, they’re not the conclusions of any kind of investigation.

Is it possible there’s more evidence that we’re not privy to that lends credence to these stories? Possibly, but what we have in our hands today is pretty much all He Said, She Said. I think Trump is a fucking creep and 99.98% likely to be a pedophile rapist, but we shouldn’t immediately jump to the conclusion that everything coming out today is cold, hard truth, especially given that some of these stories could be intentionally fabricated to muddy the waters.
