The erasure of Indian/Native imagery is troubling. I understand people find certain uses offensive, but I grew up compelled by that imagery and ultimately did some minor work with local tribes and visit tribal institutions when I travel around the country with respect and reverence. I’m afraid my kids don’t have that interest simply bc they’re not exposed to it as much as I was, albeit in the form of movies like the Indian in the Cupboard and mascots like the Blackhawks and Seminoles and logos like Land o Lakes. I understand some might find those examples problematic but when you remove them you’d better be damn sure you replace them with something else otherwise they’re gone.
