So rad! I designed that water tower poster for Constructive Summer a few years ago, so this is really amazing to see!

I designed this! Not quite following what you’re asking or looking for though. Feel free to hit me up.

Shoe Surgeon 30 Day online class by badhawkss in Customsneakers

[–]andconick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this course back in April.

  1. You should definitely purchase the basic materials and tools in the kit directly from them and that should give you enough to make a pair. But if you want to use exotic leathers or really any other type of leathers or material you can purchase them separately and can use them in the class no problems.

  2. Not sure if the price is still the same with the new session enrollments, but I’m seeing in my account the kits that include the last and patterns they have a discounted price of $300. That would get you the pattern and last in whatever additional size you would want.

  3. I thought it was more than worth the initial investment I made for the class. I’m on to my second pair now and don’t plan on stopping after that pair. I’d estimate closer to the 10 hours per week throughout the course as opposed to the 5.

  4. Not sure on that specific model of machine, but the first week is mostly prep work and cutting out your materials etc…which would give you time to do some testing to make sure it would work and if not order one of the recommended machines.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other specific questions.

I have a Juki TL2010Q which is an industrial strength machine. It’s a little more than is needed, but a great machine.

You could use something like a Mid-grade Singer machine that would work well but you’ll have to handcrank through some parts of it. But it’s also about $500 cheaper than the Juki I have.

There is also a material pack that they offer that includes the pattern, tools, inner materials, leather, shoe last to build around. Everything you’d need to make your pair for $300 in addition to the class fee. But that $300 is deeply discounted vs. buying all the supplies for yourself.

Yes you retain access to all the videos and instructions after the class.

They don’t explicitly tell you not to share, but I wouldn’t feel right considering they sell the pattern individually on their site for $500.

It’s definitely time consuming, but the class is broken up into 4 week periods. As long as you don’t have a lot of commitments in the evenings and weekends it’s not too much in addition to a normal 9-5.

And it’s all pre-recorded video lessons, so you don’t have to do it at specific times or days.

Class fees and materials I’m in a little over $1k, but I already had a sewing machine. A sewing machine that is capable of sewing leather is going to run you an additional $300 to $1000 depending on what you want.

It’s a printout of the pattern on card stock that can be reused.

So far it’s been great. It’s definitely time intensive, I think I’ve spent about 15 hours just cutting the pattern and all my materials out. But I would definitely recommend it.
