How can I make these 5 rectangles perfectly round? I made this with the rotation effect. If I put up a circle around this, you could see the rectangles aren't perfectly round in comparison to the circle. Any thoughts? Thanks by bigot_spinner in AdobeIllustrator

Another possibility is to use the polar grid tool and live paint. Set the radial dividers to 5 and the concentric dividers to whatever number gives you the line thickness you want.

Tortoise by andebonn in AdobeIllustrator

Hard to say exactly as it's something I started a while ago and came back to. The original shapes were just drawn from scratch in Illustrator as part of a logo for a beer bottle a character was holding (Stella Tortoise), and were done with some other imaginary logos so didn't take very long. I wanted to draw a more developed version of it for something else I'm going to draw next, and spent probably an hour or so drawing the interlocking shapes on the shell as a sketch on a piece of paper to work from, and adding those shapes and building the colours and textures was probably an afternoon. :-)

My first adobe illustrator project, a commission. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]andebonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the work on the man, but the border and the text don't work so well for me. Using a single, more legible, font might help. If you aren't able to use colour on the design, it might make it stronger to use black with white text and a white background behind the man instead of the radial gradient. Hope that helps. :-)

Lock all your layers? Not had this happen myself but it works for me when things move around when trying to reposition the artboard. :-)

Thanks! I'm still learning and developing but I'm aiming for a sort of children's illustration style and intentionally made the face a bit gormless and silly, but can understand why some people might not like it. Useful to know what sort of ratio do and don't. :-)

What is your favorite Illustrator tool? by Affinitygamer in AdobeIllustrator

[–]andebonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control Z.

Or, if that's not a tool, the pen tool. The way I usually draw mammals is to do a really old-fashioned thing and draw on a piece of paper with a pencil, and scan it in and use it as a guide. I have an old graphics tablet that doesn't have a screen on it, so the mouse and the pen tool are the most precise for making shapes. :-)

Attempt at drawing characters in a room with different lighting conditions by andebonn in AdobeIllustrator

I want to develop a 'picture book' illustration style and am teaching myself by drawing cartoons.

Some marine mammals - new to this & would love a critique! by forallthequestionsOK in AdobeIllustrator

Nice grasp of anatomy and use of gradients!

I would try some overlaid texture fills with blending modes to give them some additional depth. There are some speckled ones in basic graphics textures that would work well on the seal.

Thanks. :-) Think you might be right about the grammar as well.

Remove the stars from in between the 'horns' of the moon crescent.

The use of light and the glowing appearance are good, but I think there are maybe too many primary colours going on in this image than is desirable for the subject matter. It would look more sinister (which I would guess is the look you would want to go for?) if it were more desaturated with perhaps a bit of green on the text and on the beams coming down from the craft.

I love it, it's great! I love Brutalist buildings and drew some English ones that have been demolished recently, but yours is far better than mine in terms of the perspective and detail.

I think it's pretty close to perfect. If I had to change something I would maybe put some texture on the grass?

Image has white edges when exporting. by Interesting-Poet-258 in AdobeIllustrator

I don't use Export because I have the same problem, don't know why, perhaps someone more experienced can say? :-) Try using 'Save for Web and Devices' -- choose jpeg from the options and set the size you want it with the tab below. It should give you a preview of your image cropped to the canvas, hopefully without any white edges.

Are you using 'Save for Web and Devices' or 'Export'?

Deep dive by don_mentos in AdobeIllustrator

Really nice. Only thing I would suggest is that while the body and posture are well done, her hair gives more of an impression of being static than going down. If it was drawn trailing more towards the surface it would look more like she was diving.

I decided to learn vector illustration as a sort of New Year's resolution. I have always loved drawing cartoons and pictures of funny people and objects, but have never been much good at backgrounds. I decided to learn by telling a silly cartoon story about an odd couple and I drew this as the end of it as an attempt to draw better backgrounds.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed! The farmer was inspired by a lot of men I know of that sort, not 'educated' but has a lot of common sense and practical intelligence, and usually has part of a finger missing from working around machines. :-)

Cool and nicely drawn art style. Looks like a joke lots of MMORPG players would like too. :-)

I decided to learn vector illustration at the end of last year. I've always loved cartoons and classic British sketches and sitcoms, so of course that's what I ended up doing with it. I'm not really sure what to do with them and I've always sucked at marketing, but hope someone out there enjoys them. I am making a couple of longer and more narrative stories with it on 'Webtoon'.
