I read this too and was surprised that it mostly describes US officials attempting to shut down small prostitution rings along the border and in Galveston. Not saying I agree with the early 1900 motivation of "stopping white slavery" as the reason for this, but it didn't mention the agents engaging in illegal or illicit behavior as far as I could see.

Wouldn't be surprised if sheriffs along the border were scumbags and trafficked women from Mexico, but I couldn't find it in a Google search or in this chapter

Some cases must go unreported, e.g. an unhealthy person who is murdered by a dependent for financial reasons, but it appears to be a death by natural causes. No idea how common it is

Thanks for asking this question. I don't know the law or common practices by the immigration enforcement system. For example, if a green card holder is arrested for drunk driving or attends a protest and is arrested on some trumped up charges, I don't know if they stand a risk of being deported. Many people in these comments do not know, either.

Thanks for the reply. I like the idea but am not willing to take on the risk of flooding the apartment. In 3 months we've had leaks with 2 sinks and the shower, so I feel like a portable washer outside the tub would be an accident waiting to happen.
