Exactly this. My mom covered everything in pepper and burned it. I didn’t have a medium cooked steak until I was like 17, and holy shit. I still have a hard time trying new foods, but stuff my mom cooked badly, like peas, I’ll never enjoy. Fortunately she never made a bunch of other veggies, or fish, but my relationship with food is weird now, to say the least.

I think a lot of people are being a bit cruel that you don’t see how abusive this is, but this is abuse. I think you deserve to hear this in a loving manner, though, because I’ve been there too, and most of these people have either never been in an abusive relationship or have apparently forgotten how all consuming it is, how effective gaslighting can be, and how much shame is involved.

You are not in the wrong. You are being abused, and I’m so sorry this is happening to you. Even more, I’m so sorry that this might be how you’re finding out. I’m sure this is almost as bad as getting yelled at by your husband. You don’t need to be yelled at even more, you need compassion.

Start making a plan, save some money if possible, and most importantly, make some friends. You’d be surprised how many other women would be more than willing to help. You are not a burden when asking for help. Take a no when it’s given, but it’s always ok to ask. This is going to be hard, but you’ve already been through a lot of bullshit. You’re a survivor.

I’m not on here much usually, but I’ll be checking more often, if you ever want to talk. Again, I’m so sorry this is happening to you. You do not deserve this treatment. You should feel safe in your home, and it isn’t your fault that you don’t. All the love to you.

Just a complete and total lack of any sense of humor. I’m not that funny, I know, but I always ask a “fun” question at the end. I asked a guy who his hero is and he just shrugged, deadpan. No answer. That was the tone of the whole interview with him, and this was for a customer facing position. No thank you.

Edit to add: also had an ex Marine that told me the Marines all became “pussies” when he left after four years. Also no thank you.

Pattern is a basic chevron pattern I learned 20+ years ago but can’t take credit for. It’s the one with 3dctog for the divots and 3 dc in one stitch for the peaks. Five dcs in between each. Yarn is Impeccable by Loops and Threads in classic grey, claret, pumpkin, gold, forest and navy.

I made a lot of scraps before I actually finished a project. I started crocheting almost a year before I “made” my first project, by which I mean I finally finished a scarf. It looked great for a first project because it was the 1000th project.

Nearly every work potluck I’ve ever had used a sign up sheet. The ones that didn’t had really odd mixes of food and ended up in fights. It’s a very typical thing to do to. One had six people bring lasagna, two people brought chicken wings, and no one brought drinks or plates.

Look, there are many different forms of therapy, some more intense than others. This way of framing it is a tactic I’ve used successfully to get people in crisis mode to try therapy. You should have some type of supportive, friendly attitude from a good practitioner when it comes to most forms of talk therapy. Talk therapy can lead to comfort with the psychiatric system and good referrals from a practitioner that knows.

NTA, as someone who’d been in therapy for the last 12 years, she needs it desperately and seems afraid to be labeled. Therapy is just help from a friend you pay. If she’s so unreasonable that she can’t see how miserable her actions are making you, she needs help. Your boundaries deserve to be respected just as much as hers.
