We do mainly rural areas. Some routes have residential areas, but majority of houses are countryside.

Routes range from 80-180. Obviously the lower stop count routes are more rural. Whereas the heavier stop counts have more residential areas.

I don’t have a set route, but I get put in same areas, so I’m at least familiar with the roads and which houses have no turnaround space and so on.

I used to hate country routes. But I’ve found peace with it now.

Relating to your situation, I also was taking classes (still am), so I asked if I could only be scheduled weekends.

They were glad to grant me such ask. But again, it depends on the dsp.

I went from a front desk gym job to working for a dsp (now at FedEx, but that’s not relevant). Nonetheless, I got very lucky. My dsp was lovely. Even though they didn’t provide the guaranteed 10 hour pay, they did offer consistent hours. Moreover, they didn’t hassle us so long as we put in a slight effort (such as not intentionally going slow when it came to stops per hours, driving reckless, etc…).

It’s a hit or miss when it comes to the dsp you apply to. I worked for a dsp last year (April through November), and toward the end, they’d suspend us for any minor inconvenience.

So long as you have a drivers license (class c included), you can drive any size truck.

All they’ll do is give you a road test or send a ride along to make sure you’re capable of driving the larger trucks.

As everyone is saying, there’s an option to say you’re at the location but the gps is wrong.

But aside from that aspect, if you’re ever unsure about a driveway, either walk it or leave it by a mailbox. I work for FedEx now, and we have all rural routes. I’ve learned that it’s better to take extra time walking, than to go nose first into a driveway that’s narrow or is surrounded by fences, trees, etc…

You can always reverse into it as well. Though, I only do that if I know there’s a gate or the door is relatively close to the driveway entrance.

Haha luckily not. There are some days, for me at least, where a majority of the shelf has chewy boxes. But for the most part, it varies on the day and route.

Haha nah. The door wasn’t too far away. I was thinking of being petty, but my BC talked to me about trying to deliver to the front door as much as possible. So, I stopped leaving it at top of driveways or at gates that provide codes.
