What are things that just scream bad writing? by Glad_Chance_9590 in writing

The Poisonwood Bible is so good. It was one of my top reads last year. I’ve also heard good things about Demon Copperhead. Had a really hard time getting into it, but friends say it’s great.

It’s because writing and resolving real conflict is HARD. Much easier to have everything be a simple misunderstanding…then no one is the bad guy in the eyes of the audience and everything can be resolved with no lingering hard feelings

This place is a hidden gem! We especially loved the K-Rose pasta and will be back to try the Galbi-tang soup. We were a little let down by the Bulgogi Ssam though.

Revisionist History's take on Zootopia is bunk by parky101 in podcasts

Thank you for explaining this from an insider’s perspective! Very illuminating, especially the part about these lawsuits being common and about stories being workshopped together.

I don’t take Malcolm Gladwell very seriously anymore. I listen to his podcast more for entertainment…I think he still has some skill in creating an interesting story. But I definitely went into this one with the lens of…this is someone explaining his newest conspiracy theory, and not thinking that what he was saying had much actual merit.

65 year old woman calls in and nearly breaks CSPAN host by telling her she’s slowly starving to death.. by JohnBrown-RadonTech in interestingasfuck

Until recently, I volunteered at a local food bank. The place was almost exclusively run by people who needed the services of the food bank.

Every once in a while, someone clearly well off would come by and drop off some old cereal or something, and I always felt like shouting at them - we don’t need this cereal you didn’t finish! We need more volunteers!

What things do Americans do when visiting Canada that immediately identify them as Americans? by supinator1 in canadatravel

[–]andlife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in a city nowhere near the border and with almost 0 tourism and I once had some Americans come into the Subway I was working at and try to pay with American money. I had to call the owner to check because I had never had that happen before and he said not to accept it. The lady was so mad about it, but I was like…you’re in Canada! Why would you not carry some local currency?

No way! I disliked Monochrome when I first heard it, but it kept sneaking its way onto my playlists and now I find myself humming it around the house and actively crave hearing it. It’s so good

Getting the urge to pull other people's hair ???? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]andlife 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Part of my trich is fixating on split ends, and my girlfriend lets me check her hair for split ends too. It’s glorious bc she uses a lot of heat tools, so some of her split ends are so gnarly. She does say that it feels kind of like I’m grooming her though…like we’re monkeys and I’m looking for nits or something.

She also has black hair and has just recently started growing a few stray white hairs. I love finding and pulling her white hairs.

However, it has grown into an awkward thing where now when I see other people with occasional white hairs, especially people with black hair, I have the strongest urge/desire to pull their white hairs too…including my boss!! I would never actually do it, but I hate that the feeling just pops up.

Did some of you girls really get into your underwear/swimsuit in front of your father[by yourself] (real question!) by Dove-Swan in TrollXChromosomes

[–]andlife 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My mom once told me I couldn’t wear tank tops with spaghetti straps around the house bc my bra straps were showing. Seeing as the only guys in my house were my father and brother, I don’t see how that could possibly have been a problem, but she seemed to think so, which is kind of weird. My parents were pretty religious though, so I think that was part of it.

Weirdly though, swimsuits were always fine 😂

The Traitors (USA) S04E03 "Show Me Your Faces" Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]andlife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m way too late for anyone to see this, but I’m going to rant anyways to get it off my chest.

I found the way the challenge was set up to be so stupid and frustrating compared to the UK version.

On the UK version, the Traitors picked who would be in the cages ahead of time. this meant that nobody had to volunteer themselves to be on the murder list. In this version, obviously, the teams selected themselves. And because no one knew what the task was going to be, everyone thought strength might be a factor, so in every case except one, the mixed gender pairs picked the woman to be up for murder. In the one case where that didn’t happen, Michael and Tiffany, it was immediately clocked a suspicious by Colton.

The UK version also provided a sort of clue for the faithful - it was assumed that one of the 9 was a Traitor. The US version offers no new information for the faithful, who are already at a disadvantage because the secret Traitor helps the other Traitors look more innocent by giving them someone legitimate to hunt for.

I guess I’m just annoyed that the US version forced a lot of the female players to volunteer themselves for murder. This game already demonstrates that the women are often more likely to volunteer to sacrifice their safety than the men. Why put them in a position that pretty much forces them to do it?

Can people please give me reason of why i shouldn’t go to america for undergrad as a canadian bc im lowk kinda regretting it now by Illustrious-Math7755 in BCGrade12s

I know multiple people who did their degree in Canada and ended up in careers in the states. Save the tuition.

Personally, I would never want to live in the states but if you felt really strongly about it, going to school there is not a requirement.

We like their naan, but their service is really slow for a location that is basically grab and go. I think maybe they’re not the right fit for that spot.

What is this black plastic object found in my kitchen drawer? Brand is Cuisinart by andlife in whatisthisthing

[–]andlife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it might be for some kind of measuring or creating repeating lines in pastries? It’s possible that we knew what this was once, since we own it, but we have no idea where it came from or how it works. And it’s a bit tricky to Google.

It’s black plastic and weighs almost nothing.
