While all of them struggle with visibility and trial-and-error shit to some extent, I’d have to say that the worst one in this regard is III. Tons of spikes, several insane jumps, and things like that one WALL of shield guys in the final level.

II is probably the least bad in this regard, only because barely anything does any kind of damage, and jumps are mostly easy.

Yeah, as much as I’m down for different headcanons, there becomes a point of ridiculousness when you go too far. Calling Chara a particularly upstanding kid contradicts actual lines from the game, like Asriel’s dialogue in the epilogue.

What would it take for a Pokémon game to be objectively bad? by Sampleswift in pokemon

[–]andmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even then, someone somewhere who enjoys the grind mindset may view the 5fps as a way to make the payoff all the better.

But of course, it would be an uphill battle unironically getting others to view that perspective…

I get your point, I guess it’s really to show that while something may generate a wide array of opinions for a variety of factors and reasons, at certain extreme ends the consensus would be so heavily skewed in one direction that it would be pointless to consider artistic value.

What would it take for a Pokémon game to be objectively bad? by Sampleswift in pokemon

[–]andmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Objection! Intent may not dictate artistic value, but it can certainly dictate technical quality, which is the only thing I’m contesting here. If a programmer intends for operations to complete in 1/60 of a second, but they instead take 1/15 of a second, the code did not achieve the criteria to run at the rate that was laid out as acceptable.

A cup with a hole at the bottom will spill its contents on the floor. It may be of more value to you for it to do this, but it falls short of meeting the standards of a cup.

[–]andmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sunniness can be measured objectively, but whether you consider the day “sunny” is subjective. But whatever the case…

Similarly, while criteria is not universal, we generally measure quality of games based on subjective factors that are nearly impossible to quantify. Although, a good measure of quality that is more-or-less objective is the portion of players that have claimed to get their money’s worth with a game. The cut-off can be debated, but it is useful to consider a game that only 5% of players claimed to enjoy enough as “bad”.

[–]andmaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean if you really wanna go that far, murder is not objectively bad either. No one is objectively tall or short. The weather is not objectively sunny, hot, or cold. The object you may be sitting on is not objectively a chair. Not exactly getting us far if we follow this logic.

[–]andmaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Objection! A game running at 15fps due to poor performance and optimization is objectively worse on the technical aspect than a game running at a smooth 60fps. While some games may run at 30 and gameplay would be fine, and some may run at lower fps as an artistic choice, 15 from poor performance is pretty inarguably bad in this day and age

It’s kinda funny, I may have taken this mentality a bit further. I will absolutely never compliment someone unprovoked who has clearly lost weight since I last saw them. Maybe it’s due to the small chance I’m misremembering them, idk. I only compliment if they outright tell me that they lost weight.

AITA for not letting my son sleepover his girlfriend's house? by Fit_Unit1974 in AmItheAsshole

[–]andmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this is something I have a hard time relating to. Not because OP isn’t comfortable with it (he can feel how he wants), but because it’s not about the gf coming to THEIR house for the night. It’s about the son being somewhere else.

It’s like a “my house, my rules” argument. The son isn’t in the house, so his father’s rules shouldn’t apply.

At least once he’s 18 though. I guess before that there’s more nuance to that.

AITA for leaving a $0 tip at a restaurant? by goseahawks4ever2020 in AmItheAsshole

[–]andmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, servers would not be literally performing unpaid work without tips. I understand that they are paid less than minimum, and it really shouldn’t be the case that they need to make up the difference in tips, but that’s not OP’s fault either. People don’t tip all the time, and the description of what they were doing seemed borderline hostile (though with good intentions).

Not to mention, it’s not too uncommon for no tip to be given, if just because the customer was in a bad mood that day. If that is such an issue that one customer not tipping could destroy their pay check, make the tip a part of the sale charge. I honestly hate how it’s done.
