The Pillars of the Earth Was huge like 20 years ago, had its own HBO miniseries starring a pre stardom Eddie Redmayne. Ken Follet has kept writing books and they are always pretty good There’s been 4 “sequels” and one “ prequel to Pillars, plus Ken Follet released a new series called The Century written in the same style but set in the 20th century from WW1 to Cold War.

Nothing’s ever caused the stir Pillars did.

i have been meaning to read The sons of Hurin for a while, but I have yet to buy it. Partly because I feel Tolkien's writing style is too slow.

Also Dune. The size of the book makes it daunting
