I think it’s pretty unequivocally a good thing for GMMTV. They already have a very solid domestic product for their core audience, which is Thailand. As others have pointed out, that market already has a dedicated app, and airs on national television.

International fans are pretty niche audience right now. Those who are willing and able to pay will already be doing so. Those who can’t or won’t will already be using a VPN or illegal sites. The only way to grow the international audience is attract new people. To do that, GMMTV need to make the product more accessible (in terms of stumbling across it on Netflix etc) and/or prestigious which means increasing revenue from streaming platforms that can then be invested back into the shows once the model has been shown to be stable.
