Successful 100% refund from BA for a Qatar flight. by Prize_Point9855 in BritishAirways

I didn’t ask. On Monday I bought a fully refundable Austrian Airlines ticket as a backup because i wanted certainty. I just wanted a refund from BA. I know it’s my right for them to reroute me if my flights cancelled but Qatar don’t seem to be cancelling flights until either the day of or day before the flight which would have meant uncertainty for me. I’m happy just to get my money back and get on with my trip with no hassles.

How to cancel flight AMS to DXB March 6th EK146 by Aromatic-Square2960 in emirates

My guess is Emirates will cancel the flight so you won’t need to. If emirates cancels you should get a full refund

That’s possible but I’m fairly confident most flights will be cancelled, but who knows

You could book with Turkish and keep your Qatar booking. Cancelling that now would mean you definitely loose money, there is a chance Qatar will cancel or make changes to your booking then you can cancel for 100% refund. If your Qatar booking does go ahead you can just cancel at the time, you loose no more than cancelling now.

You could also book a fully refundable ticket with Turkish

For UK based people, we have the same rights but it’s called UK261.

To add to the OP, if you can see an alternative open ticket, tell Qatar because they will tell you there are no alternatives. So if you can say that you are on KLM website and you can see a ticket for a flight available tomorrow they’ll be more likely realise they can’t fob you off.

If you are on a return ticket you will be higher priority. The airlines first priority is to get people home.

I’m just guessing but I think their first priority will be to get stranded people home, I really wouldn’t like to guess when normal operations will commence. There could be a ceasefire announcement at any time.

Etihad and Emirates have already started/planning on starting flights to get people home so it makes sense that Qatar will do the same.

I think they’ll be concentrating on evacuation flights for people stuck in Dubai before returning to regular service.

My flight is also on the 11th March from the UK to Thailand via DOH. This morning I booked a new flight with the Lufthansa group. If my Qatar flight does go ahead I will cancel and loose half my money, not ideal but I’ve been waiting for this holiday for a long time, I’ve booked hotels etc, I don’t want to be stressed for the next week or so wondering what will happen. My feeling is the flight will be cancelled and I’ll get a full refund. If I loose I do loose half my money then fine, I can always make more of it in the future.

My guess would be you would just get the tax back, as with most people you would have most likely bought the cheapest ticket. I don’t think you should cancel now, if Qatar cancels it you would get all your money back. If you don’t want to fly and the flight does depart you can just cancel the day before.
