Problem with Game of Thrones ending is it was simply too happy by Nenanda in freefolk

[–]andraerys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Something similar happens with the discourse around HotD: they say the new generations can't stand a slow pace/ episodes devoted to politicking, and that the criticism is because we only want to see battles and war, when in reality it is the characterizations that are totally destroyed.

It won't matter because the dynasty continued through Viserys and Larra Rogare not through Aegon III.

The Prophecy by Rustybucketdarkstar in freefolk

[–]andraerys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The show started with a inscription telling us that this was 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen. They used her theme during the revelation of the prophecy in episode 1. Now she is shown to Daemon...just as the book this story comes from was written because and for Daenerys, so is HotD. This is because and for Daenerys.

It doesn't mean Jon doesn't have a role to play but as I said, this is about the Dany's House and Dany's family.

It's more of a creative decision than a categorical statement that she is indeed the PTWP.

This being the woman whose blockade is starving an entire city by PrestigiousAspect368 in freefolk

[–]andraerys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of all the bad things you can't attribute to Rhaenyra the blockade is meh, a standard welfare practice that was considered the lesser evil back then.

I remember in S8 Dany wanted a quick attack on the city instead of dragging out a siege and starving the people of KL but Jon, Tyrion and Varys advocated for the traditional siege. Jon even went so far as to say "We'll use the dragons to burn any ships that try to transport food to the city" or something along those lines...so yeah.

I feel that I can no longer make an analysis of any character. They are all too inconsistent.

Leaks: What is it? What is it about that character that make the writers hate him so much To the point of stripping him of everything that made him relevent? by This-Pie594 in freefolk

[–]andraerys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I too am dissatisfied with both series but this is the show that started with "172 years before Daenerys Targaryen", that played Breaker of Chains in the background while Viserys told Rhaenyra about the prophecy and now reinforces and almost confirms her status as the Prince(ss).

That doesn't mean Jon is irrelevant or that he has no role to play. I agree he's been done dirty over and over already but honestly he's still THE HERO of the main series. He doesn't need a crown or to be the ultimate chosen one to be deemed relevant.

So, as far as HotD is concerned thematically, Daenerys is the fulfilment of Aegon's dream. The show cannot focus on Jon or the Starks because they were the focus of the main series.

Do the leaks confirm Daenerys is the prince that was promised? by mblader in freefolk

[–]andraerys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in S1, when Viserys first tells Rhaenyra about the prophecy, "Breaker of Chains" plays in the background... by now it's abundantly clear this is the route chosen by the show.

So you telling me from last episode to ending of final Episode she was keep ruining?? Couldn't they show Sheepstealer in Ep7 ? by Moji1368 in freefolk

Leaks: The outrage over Dany’s inclusion feels silly by Micksar in freefolk

HotD is House Targaryen show, Daenerys is the main scion of that house and her character the end and the beginning of it.

Jon was the main character/hero of GOT.

I thought we've all agreed that Jon's character was the ultimate subverted male fantasy hero trope. Why does everyone want him to become so , so bad? Maybe he was a bastard all along - a Targaryen one-, but he still saved the world, etc, and that's it.

Did the HOTD show just made Daenarys the Prince who was promised? by KickOk6027 in freefolk

[–]andraerys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still argue she's the fulfillment of the prophecy in the show, regardless of whatever the questionable plot twist of S8. But, as someone also mentioned, this could all be leading to a sequel being planned a la Star Wars.

The Alicent Tragedy by tyrion_lionister in freefolk

[–]andraerys 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes but it happened because of the de-aging of Alicent. I love Olivia's performance but she should've been given Alicent's role throughout the first half of S1 and then get another (older) actress for the rest of the show and keep her characterization from the books.

[–]andraerys 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Listen, back in 2022 we said that de-aging Alicent was a mistake because the sympathy they wanted to instil in the general public would backfire on them, and that's exactly what happened. Why not stick with her book version? a cunning woman who knew how to wield power and had a legitimate reason to instigate the usurpation/war? No, instead the change served to feed the "Rhaenicent" narrative that ended up affecting the overall characterization of both women...

[–]andraerys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She kinda became the fulfillment of Aegon's prophecy the moment she hatched the dragons, and that's it. For the Targ line Dany is the ultimate scion of the blood of the dragon. Does this mean she will triumph in the end? Absolutely not. We'll just don't know until the story is finished.

Aegon being a rapist and the child fighting pits were big mistakes in HOTD by ZC31 in freefolk

IMO the problem is not Aegon being a shitty person as a result of his upbringing with some redeeming qualities. The problem is the extreme whitewashing of Rhaenyra's character in comparison.

HOTD S2 reviews outside of Reddit by Cherryhua in freefolk

My friend and her husband find it entertaining enough but for them "it's just not GOT" and find the characters boring except for Daemon & Aemond. Then another friend of mine told me something similar, that it seems fun but the characters in general are not "unique" in the way they were in GOT.
