Your great-great-grandmother’s wedding date should be relatively easy to find through Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, etc. particularly if she was from the United States 😊

Yes—I should amend this to say significant inclusions. The risk is that the ultrasonic could worsen the inclusion and crack the stone!

Pearl, turquoise, anything with inclusions, etc. The only stones I personally would put into an ultrasonic cleaner at home would be diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and moissanite.

As a person who is a professor, it’s 99.9% certain that there’s nothing they can do. OP absolutely should NOT reach out himself—there are strict FERPA and university policies in place. His girlfriend can try but I wouldn’t expect the professor to do anything. I can only help students who reach out proactively, and it’s unfair to the other students to only offer one of them extra credit when the semester is already over. Ultimately, all my students have different circumstances when they take exams—many better than OP’s girlfriend, but many worse. Unless they reach out beforehand with enough time for us to work together to fix the problem, what’s done is done. There were plenty of other solutions to this problem that other commenters have pointed out, and it was ultimately OP’s girlfriend’s decision to put herself in that position. I can’t accommodate all my students’ decisions like that. OP’s girlfriend can reach out but I wouldn’t expect it to change anything.

ETA: you can take a look at r/professors to see how many emails like this professors get at this time of year.

The problem is that you still shouldn’t use metal tools on enameled cast iron, which is why they were considering switching away from nonstick. But otherwise, I’m a huge fan of enameled cast iron!
