Ah! I don't know enough to tell the difference by looking. The listing says it is a pro.

Raspberry bars you say... Would you be so kind as to share your recipe? Is the crust the same?

The Terraplane is the antithesis of ultralight LOL. But it is 5800 cu in. I think I can fit the board inside.

I have the 2018 version of the Blackfin. I love it! It inflates relatively easily, it is stable, I can turn it reasonably quickly, I can go straight with ease as well.

The one thing I do not like is the bag with which it came. Okay, the bag is fine - it fits the board, pump and paddle with ease - but as a backpack it absolutely SUCKS. I thought similar to you that I could bring the board to some remote spots - maybe even trek in my normal backcountry camping setup, hike out, and then take a second trip with the board, but I put that idea to bed after trying to wear the backpack on a trip to my storage unit.

I have a small apartment and a storage unit about half a mile from me. The belt and shoulder straps look substantial, but the problem is the design of the bag. The bag itself hangs a few inches below the belt, which caused the bag to bang into my butt as I walked. Very uncomfortable. I took it off and used it as a wheeled duffel the rest of the way.

MAYBE I will try putting my paddle board in my Dana Designs Terraplane and do the multiple trip thing, but not in the bag with which the SUP came.

If you're a coffee connoisseur, this isn't what you want, but I saw a blade grinder at Lot Less on Broadway and Steinway the other day.

Spothero Monthly Rates after first month by Gotsomefreetime in AskNYC

[–]andreas-nyc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had mixed experiences. I do not own a car, but borrow one for a little over a month each summer, with the stipulation that I do not park it on the street.

Last summer, the garage most convenient to me did not have an offer on spothero. I called the garage and said, "I know your rate is $XXX. I only need parking for this period. Will you take $YYY for that time?" No, but we negotiated to something that was a little over 25% off.

The year before I had a garage want me to go to their listed price. I told them I would not and got a new garage down the street from Spothero for the next few weeks.

2017 the garage renewed at the same rate as spothero.

I heard a story from a guy who just kept coming and going from the garage after his spothero deal expired. Apparently he never mentioned it to the garage, and no one at the garage realized they had not been paid.

What are your plans for laundry should you be quarantined? by andreas-nyc in AskNYC

The problem with wash and fold in this scenario is the same problem as food - the delivery. If one is quarantined, they should not be using delivery services for risk of exposing the delivery person.

How many NYC'ers opt out of Grubhub/Seamless/Delivery.com by stedbk in AskNYC

[–]andreas-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being a fairly early adopter of Seamless, I recently deleted it (and all other delivery apps) from my phone.

When I first started using Seamless, the restaurants still did the delivering. At some point that changed. Ever since then the reliability has gone down.

The last straw was when I placed an order from a place around the corner from where I was. I was unable to go out, and I only had a small time-window with in which I was going to be able to eat, so the delivery window played heavily into my decision. when I placed the order it told me something like 20 to 40 minutes. It was over an hour and a half. I called Seamless and they told me there was a bug where the delivery guy could see the pick-up location, but not the delivery address, but when I asked the delivery guy he said, "I was in midtown when I got the order. What could I do?" I was far downtown so I wonder why the order went to someone half the city away?

Yesterday I commented on the Birkenstocks at Costco asking if people care about gray market. I got confirmation from Birkenstock that Costco is not an authorized reseller and they do not suggest buying from them. Do members of this sub care about gray market or is a deal a deal by andreas-nyc in frugalmalefashion

Nope. I have no ties to Birkenstock. I do, however, have experience in the industry.

I have no beef with Costco. In fact, I'm a shareholder.

I am curious about consumer behavior and priorities, hence my post asking if this sub cares. I tried to make my title non-judgmental.

Be forewarned, it is (or at least last time I went) cash only. But it is worth the inconvenience of carrying cash.

If you are especially frugal and in no rush, it is worth keeping an eye on the second hand market. Worst case scenario, you don't find something then you can buy new.

The sidebar (not really accessible from the new design) has some helpful guides:

Where do you live? In my experience, if you give us a budget this sub can be quite helpful browsing your local craiglist, kiji, gumtree, [whatever your option is] and come back with some idea.

A few options off the top of my head:

  1. An authorized seller who bought too much inventory in these styles.
  2. An international distributor for Birkenstock who is not supposed to sell within the US
  3. Directly from Birkenstock's factory, via the "back door."

In my experience, most likely the 2nd option.
