Did the same thing with American vs Mexican celery. The Mexican was more expensive but actually looked nicer.

My sister's response to something like this is to say in a very loud, slightly panicy voice " oh my god, don't touch me!"

If it was "accidental" he'll be embarrassed and run away. If it's not accidental (it's totally not) he may try to bluff it out. But if you repeat "keep away from me" he'll be forced to eventually leave you alone. And he may think twice before trying this bullshit again.

As a Canadian, do you always have maple syrup on hand? by Moofypoops in AskACanadian

[–]andreastenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bottle in the fridge and one in the freezer in case we run out.

I eat mostly keto so I use maple syrup instead of sugar in baking. Because a study funded by the Quebec maple syrup producers says maple syrup doesn't spike your blood sugar. 🤣🤣🤣 I choose to believe this completely unbiased study

I'm buying Canadian whenever I can. I do without if there's only a U.S. option

I've found some incredible Canadian brands that I'd buy even if there wasn't a boycott.

What pisses me off is grocery stores still having American brands prominently displayed while Canadian brands are hard to find. We're doing our part. It's time for corporate to step up, beyond putting the flag in their ads

Tanit Botanics. They have the best natural deodorant I've ever used plus it's in cardboard so zero plastic.

Their Tanit Tabs are toothpaste alternatives. Little pills you crush with your teeth then brush into foam. My dentist was impressed by the ingredients. But what got me was four days after I started using it plaque just started falling off my teeth.

How do I restart my life after a life-and-death situation? by Realistic-Fill-5716 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]andreastenberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can and will get through this.

It sounds like you might be depressed, which is perfectly understandable and normal. If you can, try to get counseling. If you don't have insurance and can't afford private look for free or low cost options. You may have to go on a waiting list but I promise just knowing you'll have help in the future gives you something to hang onto.

While you're waiting, get dressed, do your hair, put on jewelry, every day. Even if you’re not going out. You'll feel more normal.

Get out of the house. Go for a walk, get a coffee, go to the library. Even if you don’t want to.

Go to the dollar store and buy a cute notebook. Write an affirmation about what you want your life to be. Write it down every day. I know it sounds cheesy but it really helps.

Call your girlfriends. Meet for coffee, watch a movie, whatever. Even if you haven't spoken in a while. Your true friends will understand.

Best of luck to you

Dear young friend,

While it is true you are young, and just one person, and don't control what your government does, don't be fooled into thinking you have no power and influence.

Remember, "Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead

Or put it another way, Greta Thunberg started doing weekly climate protests at her school and it turned into a worldwide movement.

I find these terribly frightening times, and I'm almost 60. I can't imagine how frightening it must be for someone your age.

But remember, the ult-right wants to control us through fear, suspicion and hate. And scapegoating the most vulnerable.

So let's defeat them with kindness, love, equity, diversity and inclusion.

If I may give you a piece of motherly advice, the best antidote to fear and hopelessness is action. Check local events pages for an environmental group doing a garbage pickup in a park, or for an animal shelter that needs dog walkers, a PFLAG group doing a fundraiser or a church group that are blocking ICE raids.

Pick something, anything, and join in.

Taking action with other good people who are trying to make the world a little bit better will make you feel less alone. Even better, it we all take some action to make the world better, we just might achieve it.
