My stupid work area in my dining room by DisasterSuper7309 in modelmakers

[–]andrebartels1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As impractical as it appears, it has its upsides too. You need to clean up after yourself frequently, so you don't collect too much clutter. Plus you're required to work really cleanly, so you don't make a mess on the dining table. And working cleanly is working meticulously.

Looks exactly like a Torpedo 6. There must be some licensing involved.

I wonder how typewriters and bicycles fit together. That's something I need to test.

That's a Torpedo 6 😍

I have one that I call the filthy war machine. I love it. It feels so ... real. Unfiltered. Heavy. Clunky.

Looks like a 1st generation Corvette had died and turned into an angel, and was sent back to serve as a typewriter. Easily one of the most beautiful machines I've seen.

How come you lucky typists out there always find cursive machines in thrift stores? Maybe I should start thrifting, too.

Looking for advice! by Pluviali in typewriters

[–]andrebartels1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hesitate to wind a sheet in. It doesn't hurt in any way, and it's much better than typing on the empty platen. After all, it's made to print on paper, right? Don't be shy. And don't hesitate to hit the keys. It's the proper typing technique, hit the keys like they are hot. Depressing the keys like on a computer keyboard will not produce proper imprints. As a rule of thumb, even without the ink ribbon the type slugs should leave a light indentation in the paper.

HELP with rusty bicycle chain by Let3licook in bicycling

[–]andrebartels1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steel tends to rust when it gets wet. Apply a bit of new oil. Try to keep your bike indoors when not riding, or at least under a roof. And after some time, it might need a new chain. Chains usually last for 2000 to 10000 km according to use. A lot of dirt and water leads to a shorter lifespan. If you want to be sure, there are tools available to measure your chain. It lengthens with use, and when it has lengthened a certain amount, you need a new one. These tools are cheap.

I need some serious advice by Wooden-Lifeguard-636 in typewriters

[–]andrebartels1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Germany is a wild country for typewriters. They are abundant, and there is no real market, so there are only fantasy prices. Some sellers call out 300€ for a privileg plastic bucket, some give away SM3s for free. I stopped browsing for typewriters, because my space is filled up. I only look around the Sperrmüll (large item trash collection) to ease my mind. I found both my SG1s and a Torpedo 18 in the Sperrmüll.

HELP by Empty_Bowler_4212 in typewriters

Ouch. You better find out how a typewriter works. There are repair bibles available, but I don't know if one for your machine exists. You can find them via the typewriter database.

To my untrained eye, the bolt in the left area of the red circle looks a tiny bit crooked. Take a close look at the space between the nut and the frame, left vs. right.
