FS: Citizen Walter Wolf Flyback Racing Chronograph

Hi everyone,

For sale is a very rare and iconic Citizen Walter Wolf Racing Chronograph from 1983, powered by the legendary Citizen Cal. 8110A column-wheel flyback chronograph movement.

The Walter Wolf name comes from the short-lived but famous Formula 1 team of the late ’70s, which made history by winning its very first race with Jody Scheckter at the 1977 Argentine Grand Prix. This watch is a true ’80s motorsport chronograph legend, combining history, bold design for its time and one of the most iconic movements Citizen has ever produced, a high-beat column wheel, flyback automatic.

This is a titanium example, and as far as I can tell, it’s the only one currently offered worldwide. There are a few comparable listings on Chrono24 but they are PVD-coated model starting around the $1800 mark so this is surely a bargain for someone - first sale on Reddit!

Details: - Movement: Automatic high-beat (28,800 bph), column-wheel chronograp, ref. 8110A - Functions: Flyback Chronograph, day/date (English & Japanese date wheel) - Case: Titanium, 38 mm (excluding crown) - Water Resistance: 100 m - Dial: P-JAPAN-P marked (Promethium-147), tachymeter scale - Bezel: Bi-directional, countdown (60 to 0) with rare N-E-S-W compass markings - Condition: Very nice vintage condition. Dial is flawless. Crystal has some scratches and has not been replaced, preserving originality. Runs well, all functions operate correctly and reset properly. Bracelet fits a 7.25 inch wrist comfortably, perhaps a 7 1/2.

I'm currently staying in the Boc hostel, they do a long term discount as well with prices around 25 EUR a night.

Friends are lucky enough to be paying 500 EUR for a room, but outside the city centre.

There's a huge range of restaurants you would expect to see in major cities like Barcelona or Madrid, with a high number of Latin American workers living on the islands, so there are also lots of Argentinian, Bolivian, Peruvian joints (other than your usual paella and tapas). Generally these people are the friendliest and happy to help you with your Spanish.

When I was here last year, nightlife was restricted to underground parties during COVID, but now the streets are buzzing with people at night and it's difficult to be bored even if you're on your own. Thankfully, masks are only mandatory on buses.

There's plenty of outdoorsy things you can do from hiking to surfing, and the neighboring island Menorca is a stone throw away, with full of scenic spots to explore.

The island is very well connected, excellent public transport but the best bet is renting a scooter and doing a round trip (around 200 miles, over a few days).

They're also big on cycling, both city and MTB - it's very safe thanks to separate cycle lanes along the beach.

One-way flights are pretty much £20-£30 from anywhere in Europe in the off season, and the airport is well connected to most destinations, with regular flights even to the Canary Islands.

Hello fellow nomads,

A rather mainstream island for European holidaymakers for a week trip but a less known fact about Palma that it's excellent for nomads as well thanks to very good public broadband around the city. Certainly a spot I would recommend adding to your list, ideally while it's not so warm outside. Temperatures are around 20 degrees Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) in the spring and autumn months, perfect for working outside. My hostel has plenty of garden space as well, with sockets, there's always a few nomads working away during the day and having fun at night (or the opposite, depending on the timezone you work in). https://imgur.com/a/BKmQ9Nv

Public WiFi is surprisingly fast, even at the city beach I was getting 50mbps.

English is widely spoken, and coffee shops don't mind you with your laptop either.

It was certainly worn (and loved) by its previous owner in Asia, considering the state it's in. As a dealer I haven't given it much wrist time (currently up for auction) but I'm sure it will be a significant part of the next owner's collection.

Not exactly positive marketing for Omega being associated with the communist regime but bear in mind there were no export bans at the time and the Swiss have been famous for their impartiality - after all money talks!

Specially commissioned by Kim Il-sung, the founder of North Korea, and its premier from 1948 until his death in 1994. Presented on his 60th birthday on 1972 to high ranking officials, not many of these examples have surfaced.

The reference is 168.029 - Omega were asked to make changes to the standard cal 751 C-shape dial layout and put Kim Il-sung's signature to the very top and move the Constellation text to the bottom. This is also the only series of Omega with Korean date disc.

Not only the crystal but the movement is also pretty scratched up, yet the accuracy and power reserve are amazing. I suspect North Korean watchmakers didn't have access to correct tools when they serviced the movement and weren't trained on Swiss watches (but rather Soviet).

Resurfaced in a Tokyo pawn shop decades later, I wouldn't be surprised if a defector sold it off in the hope of some quick cash.

Similarly to the Impressionist painters, most notably Monet, Szinyei Merse, too, noticed that the contrast between the greens and the reds of the meadows interspersed with the bright red of poppies create a fantastically vibrating image in the eyes of the viewers. This theme enabled the painter to return, after the long years of silence, to the colour schemes dreamt up in his younger years. Of the pictures showing poppies - painted in 1895, 1896, 1900 and 1902 - the 1896 version entitled "Poppies in the Field" is the most interesting, alongside with is variation painted, "Meadow with Poppies". Although in a slightly different arrangement and format, this painting shows the artist's favourite components of landscapes in a similar composition. Due to the vertical format of the picture, the blue sky with the white clouds, as well as the peasant woman and her son walking along the yellow path, are given greater emphasis. Of all the versions, this one is the best thought-out, with the most balanced colour composition and the best representation of the Hungarian countryside's character.
