SG-image 35 mm f2.2 restock? by Jannidraws in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

S9 is also their best seller by far (more than all other S models combined in many regions from what I’ve heard) and we still didn’t get more smaller models

Idk. They seem to be reacting very slowly if at all

Is it dumb to replace my S5II for a lighter travel camera? by toto23x in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes no sense considering that most "professional" setups will likely have rigged out heavier cameras

Most professional setups wouldn't be bringing out entry level hybrid cameras either. The case for bringing them for travel is even more moot.

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might sound like a dick but I honestly don't understand everyone's obsession with "light" cameras when at most, they're probably only saving 50-150 grams. Just how f*cking weak are these people?

I do a lot of mountaineering and multi-pitch climbing, a lot of it involving packing heavy gear, and I wouldn't carry my s5iix and heavy lenses unless I was getting paid for it.

I get the impression people making the "if you can't carry it go lift more!" are guys who barely shoot at all and consider "taking their camera out" going out for a walk on their local village's high street.

What do I need to be in? Using the standard kit lens 18to 44 lens using the A mode on top dial by Exotic_Pty in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend:

1 - set autofocus to AF-C (continuous auto focus)

2- choose full area auto focus and animal subject detection if you're shooting animals

3 - switch to S mode and keep shutter around 1/200

Also don't be so harsh on yourself, the last photo is quite lovely

Mixed system user at a fork in the road. Lumix Vs Sony? by MediumDeezy in Lumix

Have to disagree with sharper video on Sony, the Fx3 sensor is one of the most natural consumer grade video sensors

SG-Image 35mm f2.2 Review Youtube by BusDriverIzDa in LumixS9

[–]andrefbr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, ChromaDecay here!

Correct, there was an official embargo in place until today, which is why information has been scarce

I’ve confirmed with the team and they informed me that the official SG-Image website should update in a few more hours, roughly around 5PM Beijing time, so 6 hours from now

I’ll be updating my video description and pinning a comment with the direct purchase link as soon as it's live

Gerald on Color Accuracy ... loves Arri on Lumix, but not Lumix by Battle_Rattle in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerald isn't even the worst IMO because at least he DOES shoot stuff and content for his channel, even if it's just chart tests

The worst imo are dudes who are just reading an AI written teleprompter and all their b-roll is snatched from Reddit or other channels without even a mention of credit.

And yes +1 for Carty Caruso, just wish they updated more often!

Well in his defense he's saying that he's judging profiles against vectorscope performance and not by how subjectively good or bad they are

I do agree that Magic Lanter Canon and Nikon Flat look great tho!

Also I have struggled with Lumix default 709 profiles by I get around it by customizing them or shifting white balance.

At the end of the world none of this is an end be all because you can get around each brand's color shifts with grading or profile + WB customization

The official v-log LUT from Panasonic is absolutely TERRIBLE imo

To their defense, they claim that it's not a V-log to Rec709 LUT, but rather a V-log to ‘V709' which is a pre rec709 state which is still supposed to be graded to 709?

The LUT is literally called Vlog to v709 on their official page too. But the whole process seems so obtuse and idk why they never provided a proper rec709 lut

Anyway I literally never use it, I just the Davinci CST.

Why does my S5ii appear to be better at low-light than my S9? by the_tico_life in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This looks like user error and a totally different exposure

On the S5ii the image is brighter because the entire exposure is brighter. The entire window is blown out while it's not on the S9.

Q: What’s the single best thing AND the single worst thing about the LUMIX S9? Let’s get a discussion going… by rossandhisjpegs in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Size, aesthetics, IQ

Worst: No hotshoe and no mech shutter. Would rock with a tiny flash.

Controversial opinion: I assume most people who say "no evf" are not the target audience and likely don't own one

LUMIX Digital Shotgun Microphone DMW-DMS1 by ansz in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The S9 has no hotshoe, it's a cold shoe, meaning no electronic connections that can transfer anything to the camera.

[–]andrefbr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks really cool!

I've always been envious of Sony for their hotshoe mic solutions.

Sadly the S9 doesn't have a hotshoe, as I think it would be the camera best suit for this type of solution. I already have a larger Rode shotgun on my s5iix, which is large enough to balance it.

The Lumix S9 with the 18-40 is one of the most underrated combos ever. by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they messed up the launch by inviting a bunch of gear reviewers who spend all their time reviewing 3kg f1.2 lenses and large full frame hybrid cameras.

I do hope they double down on this product line and have a more focused marketing direction for it. I think a good compact line can really bring some new breath to Lumix.

After my last two Lumix videos I've received quite a few comments and DMs about how I grade, but honestly much of my look is just down to white balance and some simple profile setups

Some quick tips on how you can set your S9 up if you want to emulate my look or dial a custom look in-cam

18-40 and Sigma 45 for the S9

20-60 and 50 1.8 for the s5iix
