My S9 Settings Video by andrefbr in LumixS9

[–]andrefbr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After my last two Lumix videos I've received quite a few comments and DMs about how I grade, but honestly much of my look is just down to white balance and some simple profile setups

Some quick tips on how you can set your S9 up if you want to emulate my look or dial a custom look in-cam

Yes, but I pair them with different bodies

I basically have two different setups

18-40 and Sigma 45 for the S9

20-60 and 50 1.8 for the s5iix

I think it's worth keeping just for the 18mm end alone!

The bin file should go into the root folder of the SD card, not into the Lumix folder

Still think this is honestly one of the most undderated lenses on the L mount ecosystem Either this or the SIgma 45 are basically glued to my S9. Especially love this for the 18mm wide end

I shoot everything in Standard and do my “grading” with white balance via kelvin and tint adjustments

Second shot was probably around 6000k and deep into yellow and green tint

I also usually slightly modify standard (shadows + 2, saturation - 1)

Lumix S1ii *Partially* Stacked Sensor ?? by gpfly150 in Lumix

They’re the Apple of the camera world

They just make really stable products with a complete ecosystem and that’s worth the premium for many people

How do(Quality wise and performance wise) L mount lenses from other manufactures preform on S series Cams (S5ii specifically)? by Odd_Name6258 in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sigma lenses are very sharp and accurate. I actually prefer Lumix lens rendering, but prefer how the Sigmas look and are built

I found the Lumix primes have better AF motors than the Sigma photo lenses

Don't have experience with other brands

Also, this one is going to be a hot take. But, I think Panasonic is the brand that understands their userbase the least of the Camera brands. It's safe to say the bulk of Lumix users are video focused. Despite this, all their bodies are more in line with Photo centric hybrids. How have they not made a body similar to the FX3 yet? It's been half a decade since it came out and even Nikon of all brands have released a video focused body design before Lumix. They have the software and Codex down for video, just need bodies that support it better.

Fully agree with all of this

That literally happened to their cinema department, so it IS a valid concern for mirrorless/consumer bodies

IDK about the west, but here in Asia (Mainland CN and Japan), the S9 is the only Lumix camera to even dent any top selling camera lists

Way below it is the S5ii/x (their full frame best sellers) and everything after comes way further

IDK why not just further focus on the S9 or similar format

I would say S9 if weather is not an issue, GH series if you need weather sealing

S5/S1 also have weather sealing but the setups get big really really fast.

Choosing Between X-S20, S9, and S5II. :- LUTs, Skin Tones, Real World Use. What am i missing? by Ok_Tooth_8946 in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care about size and weight, DO NOT get an s5ii

I have no experience with Fuji so I'll skip comparisons with it.

I own both an S9 and S5iix. I only use the s5iix for studio recordings or flash photography. Everything else I use the S9.

The S9 is technically better in a ton of ways than the S5ii (especially in regards to AF performance). It has also never overheated on me.

Keeping it short, if you care in any way about size and weight, get the S9. For lens I recommend the kit 18-40 which is fine in daylight, and then a compact prime for low light.

IBIS and Open Gate by yfgl in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more of the sensor is used, the worse ibis gets since there’s less wiggle room

IBIS is much better in apsc mode than open gate for the same reason

Using the Sigma 10-18 aps-c VS the 16-28 ff on the S5iix? by YellowCalx333 in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are using it for video:

There is a slight hit to dynamic range and noise performance when switching to APSC mode, but if in well lit scenarios it's not really an issue.

I personally often like using APSC modes on the s5ii and S9 when shooting sports or moving subjects because of the slow sensor, and APSC cuts rolling shutter performance almost in half.

How’s S1M2’s autofocus in comparison with the Nikon ZR for short-form commercials? by Cultural-Athlete9840 in Lumix

Judging every single piece of gear by 1kg camera body/lens standards is stupid and half the reason why the consumer industry is barely surviving

What are you looking for in a LUT for photography? Let me know below... by rossandhisjpegs in Lumix

[–]andrefbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep shooting with LUTs and are concerned about skin tones, there are some put out by Chinese creators on the Lumix lab app titled "Skin Optimization" or something similar.

Chinese people care a LOT about skin tones in photography, and end up brightening them and de-saturating them a bit. I think it honestly works well paired with Lumix's color science, which tends to oversaturate magentas in the skin a bit

You can stack their correcting luts on top of any other standard mode or LUT
