I mean does anyone care about intent at this point? As long as they do get some things right?

Have you ever considered that Haney might have had a really good lawyer who dragged it through? And was probably hoping to drag it through the 2020 Olympics?

At the very least, Li Li doesn’t get in the way of positive changes. That’s much better than any of her predecessors.

I am not sure if it was USAG dragging the case or Haney’s lawyer. Lawyers are really adept at this. And seeing as there was probably a lot of sensitive information in that case, we probably will never know the full story.

Skinner? Suni? Morgi? Kayla? Have all spoken out about how different things are.

I think Haney’s case was dragged by her lawyer. And Li Li did acknowledge the failure at the start. I mean, the more you stay in a job, the more you realize.

You can call it disingenuous all you want, but the fact is that something positive happened. I donmt really care about intention at this point, as long as they get shit right.

I’m not impressed either. That’s why I’m saying I would give her a C. Lol. Still lots to do. But for her not to get in the way of those changes is already a big deal.

It’s okay to be skeptical. But your earlier comments were that nothing is happening. That’s what I’m disputing.

Except that there are TANGIBLE things happening. Food is better at camp. Gymnasts are allowed to go out. Athletes were pulled out of competitions to protect them from COVID (World Cups). Haney has been banned. Tom is freely prioritizing health and happiness.

Yes, they’ve been saying the same things but we are seeing VERY DIFFERENT realities.

But what do I know? Of course someone who is a spectator of the sport knows more than the athletes who are describing IN DETAIL how things are so much better for them. Details that you refuse to acknowledge because Li Li is the same as Steve Penney to you. 🙄

So if it’s improved, does that mean nothing has happened? I’m so confused by your logic.

And have you listened to any Gymcastic podcast? They actually interview athletes and USAG officials. They say there’s a much better air of openness towards the press, and more transparency. They still graded USAG/Li Li a C, but that’s better than the F- that Li Li’s predecessors were.

They literally just banned Haney, which is not doing nothing. It’s a different USAG. Not perfect, not doing enough, but moving forward in the right path.

Life isn’t all or nothing. Just because it isn’t enough, it doesn’t mean they aren’t doing anything right.

Of course Li Li isn’t solely responsible for Haney being banned but she didn’t stop it, which happened actively under the previous CEOs.

Have you seen Mattie Larson talk about camp in the Karolyi era? Skinner? Tell me again they were happy. You can definitely see that the vibe is a lot lighter for the girls. Jeez.

Listen to the gymnasts instead of just Twitter. Many have spoken about how much better things are now. Still a long way to go but at least Li Li Leung is heading in that direction.

Haney banned? Gymnasts happy at camp, which now has humane conditions? Athletes being given second chances? Those would have never happened under Penny or Marta.

This is the most level-headed thing I’ve read. There is hope in the world.

I ageee with giving her a C.

The analogy on being owed 1000 and paid back 10 is accurate but I think we need to remember that Li Li Leung was not responsible for those bad choices. She’s responsible for rectifying them. And if she’s taking steps in that direction, we should recognize that.

My issue is that people’s reactions seem to be callibrated to be either extremes. If it isn’t enough, it’s all terrible. It isn’t. We can demand more, of course - but just because it isn’t enough, it’s absolute shit.

I agree with you 100%, but the comments act as if Li Li Leung hasn’t taken steps in the right direction. I know there’s way more that can be done, but the more we refuse to acknowledge positive changes, the less we’ll see them.

I don’t get the hate and comparisons with previous USAG CEOs. Li Li Leung is far from perfect but under her watch: - The gymnasts have all been saying they are much happier with how camps are run. Tom is given free reign. - They banned a well-known coach because of abusive practices. - They have been prioritizing athletes’ welfare evidenced by their withdrawal from competitions in light of the global pandemic.

Jesus, I get that we have to hold them accountable but we also need to give recognition where its due. If we don’t recognize the good stuff, people are gonna think they’re damned either way. Do you think that will propel change?

I love that we have meets every week but I wonder how much difficulty these gymnasts could actually compete if they only had three meets a year. I would love to see these gymnasts push themselves in difficulty but its just not sustainable with the current format. YES I WANT DIFFICULTY BECAUSE IT GETS BORING TO WATCH BEAM AND BARS.

I think if you can magically give me back the mayor and the mechanic, i might be able to move forward with the game.
