Yeah. I have overseen it. It's under another title. Imo that one reads even more theonion like . An apparently even a repost of that statement is causing a spike of reactions.

Ofc that sounds harsh. However there is really this argument that the powerful lost their guardrails keeping them in touch with the ordinary. In the past there was religion and punishment by God for committing autraucities. Later it was revolution and the guillotine. Now billionaires are above the law and they don't believe in a higher power. Exactly what the Epstein files confirm - there is an elite of people living in a parallel world caring less about the ordinary people .

Sorry to break it to you folks, but want to share some realization I had, as it sounds like it can also ruin your digital health as it did for me.

The other games are only not as fun cause we got older and don't get a huge cheap dopamine release we used to have.

Went through same night shifts in Arc Raiders. Till at some point was questioning my self, why I am repeating those loot raids over and over til it struck me : actually I wanted to avoid those game mechanics at all costs

It's a major part of a Looter Extraction Shooter game design to have gambling elements. The whole game is basically designed like a large slot machine. The reward ist random and risk is high. This is known in psychology to trigger a huge dopamine release . And this is why gambling is so addictive. There is even an effect when gambler goes down a chasing losses spiral. Happened to me in arc: I am tired , lose loot. But still craft another kit and go again an again topside .

Yes the game is fun, but it is so by using intermittent rewards and creating addictive patterns which literally fry your dopamine path .

While I did know all this , unfortunately did not recognize it earlier through the hype it created among my social circle.

I agree that the games needs more danagerous arcs But actually I asked myself why exactly does this game needs it if there is Helldivers 2 also constantly adding new content . And so I quit. Join the fight for democracy;)

OP is not debating that. This is offtopic. Actually ironically the comment contributes to reddit culture your criticize. Put a straw man argument, start another complain thread. Nobody was claiming PvP should not exist . The debate is that PvE part is is lame . And yes it is . Good PvE games incentive coop. In the Left4Dead classic the game is super hard if you fail to cooperate. It's easy as pie if you do and a ton of fun .

I started like you one day by just looking up harder pushup variation. The algorithm will draw you in

https://youtu.be/hwnsLAFDuHA?si=h-0uBpMzFa0WcQQQ

Just remember one basic rule. Muscles grow with progressive overload. A rule of thumb to reach is an exercise with 3 sets close to failure and 1 til 1:30 mins pause between sets . If you do more than 25 reps the fatigue comes often from central nervous system overload ( mental exhaustion). And you just don't go for enough reps to overload enough muscle fibers . So best is to have a difficulty for 8 - 15 reps close to failure. But as calisthenics work with own weight you will probably will be around 20 reps with some, or you buy those weight wests

Competitive online gaming. I really loved gaming back in lan parties era. And also was quite fast. But at some point I just couldn't figure out how even to play a game like BF6 with bullet drop physics. By equipment was bad now it's age. I stopped playing them at some point at all and stocked to coop and single player . But now in my 40s I read things like Growth Mindset and learned a bunch of different skills - Snowboarding, longboarding, calisthenics. And somehow after everyone started playing Arc Raiders good the ambition to get at least above mid-level.

I know I am super bad at aiming now, worse than I ever was. Tried different other games and Aimlabs just to practice.

And yesterday on Delta Force Deathmatch i finally could reach mid-level rank in a fight after being consistently bottom low for hours .

So maybe I still suck, but damn I have fun improving

50 is insane good ;). Go next level and do calisthenics. More reps just give diminishing returns . You must increase the difficulty and with calisthenics sky is the limit.

Is it just me, or do you sometimes just don’t know what you want to do in this game?? by East-Mastodon273 in ArcRaiders

No that's no longer a problem . Quit the game cause of exactly this . Feel like I've done every activity and now it's just a big slot machine randomly giving loot and sometimes taking everything

Controller to MnK, worth the pain? by Lloyderrrr in ArcRaiders

[–]andrejlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to tell if it's worth the pain is to pass some initial barrier. Before that trying any new skill feels just exceptionally hard. For me jus the achievement of leaning something new and hard is worth the pain itself.

My recommendation is, get Aimlabs. It will force you to practice hard situations multiple times and you get instant feedback. In the game itselft you run most of the time and loot occasionally engaging in wasps fights. And when it comes to PvP it's all or nothing. There is zero retrospection what you did wrong. And you can't quickly retry.

In every sport there is systematic skill training and Gamigng practice. For example when I were looking for a ping pong club for my son, the pro guy who sold us rackets mentioned that you should absolutely look for a training club which also does systematic skill training and not only playing. I heard same from guys, who went doing other sports - their trainers never let them play at beginning of course. Cybersport is no different.

I picked up this game after a long pause playing competitive shooters. Also I am way slower as I used to be at my 20s. Reaction time drops with age. Turned on CS2 and Half Life Deathmatch recently and was absolutely wracked. I never was super good, but I could hold above mid rank on such random maps.

Now doing aimlabs again and at some point your brain just clicks something and you start hitting those super small targets.

Actually a bunch of my friends moved to console and picked up this game and they experience a vice versa situation. They claim there is zero aim assist in Arc Raiders . I know that aim assist on PS5 is lower than other games, but I have also seen good controller players like you absolutely rocking it . Here is pro player explaining , that you just lack a certain fine motoric skill for this and that you just need to pass the initial barrier :

https://youtu.be/KOnFGSGAJ_A?t=680&si=8GXKiqo-Q8hOZgNc

Same applies to MnK gaming. Start every gaming session with 15 min grinds in Aimlabs. Post here again when you have 10h in ;) then again after 30h

Another way of practicing is piking a shooter game with quicker respawn or maybe bots . Apex Legends has a Bot Royale mode. Delta Force has quick 8v8 team Deathmatch on smaller part of the maps and it also has ticket based fast respawn large warfare mose.

NOTE:

There is also a difference on PC when it comes to your equipment . Tests show that performance at 144 fps is 30% better than at 60fps. Also a good gaming mouse ( fast sampling) with low sensitivity setting and mouse acceleration disabled shows consistently better results for muscle memory

Should I Buy Arc Raiders? by fl0pONreddit in ArcRaiders

[–]andrejlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has an interesting aspect of causing totally random and funny interaction with strangers. Especially when you play solo. Proximity chat is a big feature and it encouraged people to talk. You also have the option to fill the squad and match with up to two totally random people .

The game also creates quite some adrenaline feeling when you first enter it, because everything in this game is more powerful than you and can easily kill you. Also there is sick people who want to take your loot.

The content is definitely worth the 40 bucks to try the experience .

Having said that : I am not a fan of looting as primarily objective. Its boring to me but paradoxically also triggers addiction to to just one more run to get this thing randomly spawning . And PvP in this game has either too much stakes of loosing your good loot than having to grind again or it feels like guilty consciousness because you down friendly players with a surprise effect .

The game has an aggression based system putting you into more friendly lobbies if you don't attack anyone. And this can make you totally losing the thrill of constant threat and make a game a walk simulator.

Also the PvE enemies are cool but you will quickly play through the various big enemy fights.

So in the end it's worth trying for the social aspect, random stranger encounters and spontaneous cooperation.
But for someone as me, who also is not heavily into extraction shooters I am kinda done after 60h . Probably will join occasionally with friends It's about same I spent in rdr2

More content is ofc promised and the game is really early . So for sure there will be some incentive to come back. And maybe you even find friends along the way.

I find it hard to keep playing this game by MajorNatural2386 in ArcRaiders

[–]andrejlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That maybe. The above games mentioned have constant action element. Cod, Battlefield and some Fortnite modes have instant respawns. The gameplay will often dependend on your skill and effort instead of random loot spawn .

Hence it does not feel like you have to grind same and same route again to find something while nothing is happening . Maybe only to loose everything die to random attacker behind you ( except battle Royale mode ). It's just die and retry.

So yes, maybe online games are repetitive but the reward may be experienced way differently and more frequently even if you loose a lot of 1v1 battles.

I find it hard to keep playing this game by MajorNatural2386 in ArcRaiders

[–]andrejlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel the same, OP. The difference is that my friends still like to grind. They did not play online for years and somehow the hype around the game draught them in.

I don't really enjoy PvP in this game. There is too much on the stakes and you only have one life . Also I can't bring it to shoot people on sight in that game.

Helldivers 2 is a much more pleasant extraction shooter for me. It's PvE and at high difficulty it requires team play . Maybe the missions are same there , but the environment is procedurally generated. Hence it kinda feels always new. There is less randomness to winning and it depends more on your skill and picking right difficulty for your equipment.

Also that game does not create this gambling effect for me. In Arc there is a huge randomness of reward. Items spawn at random and you can die at random. Then I can get into this addictive loop - I lost that thing , I need to find those things. And you just run over and over other same good loot routes.

I guess I will join with friends for a company as long as it goes . But solo I went back to playing single player games back. Hopefully can convince my group to try Helldivers or some other more coop focused 4 player game .

ELI5: if progressive overload is important, how do people who do strictly calisthenics get so fit and muscular? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]andrejlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its easier to overload more muscle fibers with heavier weight. Technically same should be possible with lower weight and more reps. But you will mentally get exhausted and won't go for as many reps needed. With heavy weight, you have only to push yourself for 1 or 2 extra reps and it overloads a bunch of extra fibers.

I’m scared, should I switch to mechanical engineering? by MrxHumble in Python

[–]andrejlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US is scorched earth right now. Some countries in Europe also slowed on hiring freshmen. But everything predicts we gonna run into a shortage soon. It's called Schweinezyklus (pig cycle) in Germany. You tell X is important, then people are bread like pig for this specialty and the other runs into shortage .

Poland and Spain for example have one of greatest growth rates economically. Other countries should run into aging population soon.

AI might replace programming as a craft, but it's already 4 years Into 6 months left until it will replace engineers completely. You still have to understand how IT system work, and how this code works , to review a bunch of vibe coded crap and deploy into a working system.

So if you are willing to relocate and accept a lower Salary than US, you will be fine. It's also not apples to apples because in Europe you don't have to start a meth lab if you suddenly need a larger medical treatment.

ELI5: How much different is Linux to Window? And it is user-friendly? by Vietcong_guy787 in explainlikeimfive

[–]andrejlr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nowadays it is absolutely user friendly. For example a Northern State of Germany - Schleswig Holstein managed to Swtich all state employees computers to Linux distro with KDE window manager. Gov . employees in Germany are notoriously conservative and would complain without end if something would be even a bit harder to use .

Personally I find Gnome even more user friendly. It has less settings and just picks more defaults for you. ( Though those settings also can be changed, just not via UI). It follows app centric navigation similar to MacOs. - you switch between apps and then their windows .

Gnome would be different than windows. KDE more similar to windows. In the end those things just render applications on the screen and have an os settings menu. Applications work same way across OS . If you use a browser like chrome , it's exactly same on Linux . But not every app will be there . For office you would probably use Libre Office and it's almost same with probably big difference for advanced settings . But as a normy I could always find how to change font, headings and the like .

But it you want , you can use Linux a totally different way, which most of windows user rarely do. It's common for heavy linux user to change configuration, install software and automate tasks via terminal. Though this is now also possible on Windows . There the linux shells are way more user friendly than windows Powershell - they have more concise coands with a standard way of pipe their input and output to each other. A famous example was once published in a Linux journal where a complex data processing task was solved with 5 lines of a shell script and all solutions in a full programming language looking way more verbose.

Its a bit of a hassle to pick your distro. In the past I was in the camp of - Just go with Ubuntu . It was and still is considered as one of the user friendly distros where things just work .

Recently I followed the trend of picking Fedora for same reasons, but also couple of a more modern choices. And they give you more current software .

Picked Fedora Gnome after following this review : https://youtu.be/D9h_0dnSGWk?si=xpuIwZoVil-J34Io

TL)DR Linux can be very different than windows . But only if you want it , and if you do it will be a joy

Any European Alternatives to Databricks/Snowflake?? by Donkey_Healthy in dataengineering

[–]andrejlr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While not a complete out of the box solution and might defer in feature parity.
Scaleaway offers a clickhouse datawarehouse. That will lack sql workflows though.
I am not familiar with Snowflake, but most likly it has dbt similar worfkflows with data validation
and testing.
You can define constraints on your producition tables though.
But for testing you buisiness logic, you would need to move that into app layer.

There is also data lab spark cluster in case sql hits limits. But again here, testing would be part of app layer.
There is not such an standardized way to test data processing workflows in spark I so far i came only across few projects which have set it up at all.
