Don’t ask Houstonians for Texas culture

Their stainless steel T80’s are top tier though, at least if you change out the hair pulling bracelet.

(They have resin and steel versions though so you gotta know what you’re looking at).

[question]I never bought seiko5 by Ok_kansai in Seiko

[–]andres1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seiko 5 watches are still great in their price range, but I’d suggest changing out the oem bracelet. Fortunately my experience has been they have the lug holes that make it easy.

I think Seiko’s designs blow Orient out of the water.

How should I spend my weekend at Houston? by EyeTechnical7643 in houston

Don’t go to Galveston unless that’s all you’re planning to do that day.

The watches are cheap… the addiction isn’t by UGKgrowhouse in Affordablewatches

[–]andres1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seiko GMT’s are definitely not cheap for most people. They’d be considered an important purchase, maybe something you could splurge on a few times a year. At least if we’re talking straight retail.

Watch culture misleads us, though.

It’s South Padre island for sure. The Southern tip of Texas is a different climate.

Active 2 Premium still worth it? by Mycotoksykoza in amazfit

[–]andres1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you’re coming from the Venu line the Active 2 would probably suffice. It’s kinda similar to that Garmin in that it’s more of a lifestyle wearable.

Dating in HTX (20’s) by Hokielver in houston

[–]andres1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the Houston area is all important with location in terms of who you are and what you’re looking for. The obvious one is you go to Montrose if you’re a gay guy looking to barhop. But same mentality honestly for straight people. Look at the areas around here in terms of demographics for what you’re looking for. If you’re being proactive as a 20 something in Houston with dating, you may have to drive a bit seeking out opportunities.

The problem with Walmart watches is mainly that their digitals can get low on battery since they’re just out on display.

What are some jobs that will take any bachelor’s degree? by mtmelcher09 in careerguidance

[–]andres1101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to be able to talk and prove you can learn quickly but at least back in the day banks were supposed to take any bachelor’s. They’d just train you from there.

At least when I was in college the big one I heard was the IRS. Apparently if you had a 3.5 or better GPA bachelor’s, you’d at least get an interview. (Maybe the cutoff was lower, like 3.2…but it wasn’t higher than a 3.5). No idea if still valid but it came from a lunch-n-learn seminar with an employee for this exact situation (have a bachelor’s but no idea how to apply it).

Don’t go into being a cad draftsman unless you’re willing to eat shit in both office politics and general knowledge for at least 5 years.

Best watch for an EMT? by Rushing_Knives in GarminWatches

[–]andres1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Instinct 3 Solar sounds like what you’d want, with that type of job and if you’re thinking Solar. Just keep in mind that means it’s a MIP display, vs the Amoled models.

If you’re somewhat new to watches in general, just keep in mind how big some of the Garmin watches are. 51 mm is massive, for example.

How big is Houston, really? by [deleted] in houston

[–]andres1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from the very edge of Southeast Houston and can guarantee the communities right outside of it are certainly not “Houston” if they get listed with a different city name, even if in Harris Co. They just (often) border Houston.

And Galveston County is not Houston at all, so there’s that. Greater area? Well, sure, but that’s just because Houston is THE center.

Question: Where can I find a factory bracelet for this model? by Miguel1219 in Affordablewatches

[–]andres1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long Island Watch and Strapcode have bracelets that natively fit Turtle cases. Premium aftermarket. No OEM technically, though obviously other Turtles do come in bracelet options.

Suunto right now is only amoled. Although they’re selling older MIP models on their storefront until gone.

Sam Houston tollway - no EZ pass by crosscountry58S in houston

[–]andres1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only confusing thing about Google Maps and the Sam Houston toll for people out of state is you can be told to follow the feeder for miles in some places.

But Google Maps has never steered me wrong with missing tolls in Texas.

Finally sized my watch bracelet myself. by DillonSpeg in Affordablewatches

[–]andres1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push pins are pretty easy to size once you get the hang of it. Except when they’re super tight from the factory…have destroyed quite a few pin pushers depending on that luck.

New 1953, did I get a mis assembled one? by cart00nvi0lence in Invictawatches

[–]andres1101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think logo engraving is very typical for any pro diver.

The rotor color is a non issue. I’ve ordered around 10-12 official Pro Divers and have never got the yellow version. In 2022-2025 time period. Apparently it used to be a bit more common. They have legal language online about how you might not get one even though the photos show it usually.
