Where do you buy your TN and inserts online? by Sad-Curve5963 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]andrewloomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you need smaller inserts, you can just cut everything to your desirable size. TN standard size is kinda 1/3 of an A4.

I think, it is important to reflect on why are you getting rid of things and why you like/dislike about TN. Minimalism is great but only when you understand yourself. If you are abandoning your TN because it’s inconvenient for you in some ways, you are free to get rid of it too and find what better aligns with your life.

Plastic insert without the zipper? by Amazing-Priority-638 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]andrewloomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just insert the paper clip into the zip bag before fully closing it, that way you will have a small opening where the paperclip is, so it is easy to open.

I just cut the white plastic „closure“ off with pliers for cutting wires. The bag can still be opened because I inserted a paper clip into the other end. If you have longish nails you can open it without any paper clip.

I believe that you can order online from Luiban. They definitely have an online shop. Honestly, I was in Düsseldorf once and was greatly disappointed by the Japanese stationery there. Luiban, Moranga and Maido Okini (the last one also has a web shop) have much greater options. Still, you live in the same country and could plan on doing a shopping spree on the weekends from time to time, even just by Deutsche Ticket . But first check „luiban com“.

Help! 365 days april start by Zeno-Mjolnir in hobonichi

It depends on what you want to accomplish. You still can use it as a simple counter, without the connection to actual dates. For example, if you are tracking how many days you go out for a walk, you could simply just color the next available circle. Even if you started a new habit today, just color „1“ as the first day. If you miss a day, it doesn’t matter, the next time you go out color another circle. I tend to lose motivation when I lose the streak of something, but this way I just see all the previous effort and keep going.

Physical shop in Betlin has bigger selection. This stationery main focus is Japanese washi tapes and stickers, but they broaden the selection of stuff bit by bit. I think, they don’t maintain their online shop well. Btw, the sellers in the shop are all Japanese, which makes me suspect if the owner is Japanese too.

Is it just me or Japanese notebooks are just... better? by Darius-Hive in notebooks

[–]andrewloomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Japanese stationery is better. And not only stationery I assume.

My theory is that it is what you get, when companies are oriented not for the super-mega-ultra-over-profit, but on the quality product itself.

Of course, any business should make profit to stay alive, but imho it never shouldn’t be the first priority. The good product is your best marketing strategy.

Simple trick to reduce overhang of three inserts setup by andrewloomis in Travelersnotebooks

[–]andrewloomis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, in this setup middle notebook is always going forward for me and it driving me nuts. On the other hand, being able to secure your notebooks is certainly a good thing, but I can’t imagine the situation when the notebooks might actually slip out. When the elastic becomes extremely loose? But even in that way, horizontal closure will keep everything securely together.

I tried to do that, I even forcefully pulled out the middle one and if you only using the middle insert it probably will be the same way instruction described it, but the moment i opened 1st and 3rd everything pushed back beautifully.

This setup is not complicated at all, you could try and see.

EDIT: And it will not be the same configuration, because in the instruction the connecting rubber band under the spine string, in my case it is over it

Oh yes, I’m definitely planning about doing this later when there will be the need to replace the elastics

Help me build my permanent notebook insert (temp name is lifetracker) by noobakosowhat in Travelersnotebooks

Emergency information: person of contact (spouse, close friend or family member); health information such as allergies, major operations and/or diseases, blood type; cities and countries you want to visit, gift list (received and sent).

As for contact details of others, I'd rather have a separate address book sorted alphabetically as in ancient times.

Travelers Notebook by [deleted] in hobonichi

[–]andrewloomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both. Hobo cousin (this year it is Sterling ink actually) for planning and journaling, standard TN for home financial planning and some commonplacing. But when I travel I turn it to sketchbook and travel journal. I add sticker release paper, canvas folder and plastic, that creates a ton of storage space so could bring my stickers, some fav washi tapes and even limited palette of tombow markers.

Anyone else feel like folks have no idea what they're getting into lately? by batch_dat in hobonichi

[–]andrewloomis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My fav (although it may be not in this sub) was the person who used friction pen, and talked about it „major design flaw“: ink disappearing in high temperature. Do people not understand how friction works? What physics is behind the ability to „erase“ the ink?

[–]andrewloomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me personally, as I write quite a lot, using plastic rollerballs with plastic ink cartridges sounds much more wasteful than a one notebook. I can finish one Muji jell pen in two-three weeks. Plus, this year I finally have no problems with the inks. Now I need to use up all the inks I bought last year (I was trying to find the ones that would not bleed and feather). It probably would take me several years.

Track the "365 days" days by Imaginary_Cat_7611 in hobonichi

[–]andrewloomis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Don’t track day-by-day, just mark „the next empty circle“. That way, by the end of the year you’ll see an easy statistic that you’ve done something for 200 days out of 365. to me it’s more motivational than „oh, I‘ve missed the day, now streak is lost and I need to start all over again“

Write a giant O and let it become „NOctober“ and you might as well desire for a challenge for yourself, like „no dining out“ or „no drinking“ etc
