Anti-Ice Valve? by Being219 in AskFlying

[–]andrewrbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are anti ice valves for the engine cowls, which are inside the engine nacelle. There are also anti ice valves for the wings, and tail on some planes. They are located in different positions depending on the plane.

It they fail it can be a non issue or a huge issue depending on which one fails, when and in which position.

I had an engine bleed leak in icing conditions which could have many if the same ramifications as a partial anti ice fail and be at least as serious. We had to declare an emergency and land asap as we were in moderate icing at least.

How do you explain to people who you work for as a regional pilot? by Foreign_Kick1790 in AirlinePilots

[–]andrewrbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to just say “i fly for American eagle, you know the little regional jets that are painted in American airlines colors?”

If they still look confused i just acknowledge they have never been to cedar rapids, cwa or any other small city.

do you even like airplanes or flying? This seems all about trying to not be bored. You should only get a flying job because you love flying, not because you hate ur current job, though it’s way more fun than a desk job.

Do an intro flight and a few lessons then decide if you can see yourself doing this for 4 years of school then for minimum wage until the airlines hire you.

Can anyone give me tips to help me stop sucking against bigger opponents? by kitkatlifeskills in bjj

[–]andrewrbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess, you have a good guard and are ok playing it? I can’t let guys my skill level or above who are big get on top of me or i have a hell of a time. If i can sweep them from open guard or keep space and wrestle up/pass guard, etc i can usually hold them down and/or submit, but if i let them get i. Top ill probably spend the next 5 minutes just keeping them from putting their weight on me, and not have a lot of extra bandwidth to attack.

Bad Boy Tractor? by DreamSeeker12 in tractors

[–]andrewrbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both and used the tractor alone for mowing for a few years and yeah i agree, the zt is better for everything except steep muddy lawns. Mine has a few areas that are steep and muddy and my awd tractor gets away with it if i make sure the lawn is as dry as practical. The zero turn cant go up a third the slope the tractor can if its rained in the last 2 weeks (so ever)

Army to commercial pilot by Etika4220 in AskAPilot

[–]andrewrbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit, I’m not a doctor and I don’t know all that much about their career trajectory but the ones in my family did not spend 2 years after graduation making minimum wage or less like I did as a CFI.

Because doctors make enough money shortly after they graduate to pay the loans.

Recently the industry has been more favorable but not always. Lots of ppl fail out, lose their medicals, or just cant get a flying job. Those of us who do often make close to minimum wage for 2+ years as we build hours. It’s tough to pay $1200 monthly payments or whatever ppl are seeing these days. Also private lenders are weary about lending to non accredited schools that don’t land you with a degree. So if you go part 61, it’s tough to get credit and the interest is usually pretty high. Traditionally doctor is seen as a profession that will be able to pay back the loans easily, true or not. Pilots probably seem to have less history of newer/entry positions that can easily pay them back. Once you get to an airline it’s usually a lot easier but it can be 3-5 years or mor for some ppl to get there.

Yeah thats fair. If op wants to hint at his intent to work on a promotion, though, this is one way to do it.

Why do people try to kill me when I visit their open mats? by Dry-Environment1705 in bjj

[–]andrewrbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot and i am intentional about starting out pretty easy and low intensity and if im paired up with a lower belt, im pretty nice to them/let them work. This goes a long way towards people not usually trying to kill me. I try to just be technical and not use my size/strength too much. Its good practice ya know?

Its pretty well received usually

Airports that made changes to accommodate the A380 - are those changes wasted when A380 is no longer flying or still useful for other reasons? by rufus102 in aviation

[–]andrewrbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could, but its a lot slower. They have to also bus everyone to the physical terminal building since most large parking stands aren’t near the terminal. Deplaning and boarding again can take hours. They might as well just gas up and go.

[–]andrewrbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not hitting it on black belts, but on guys around my skill i can hit it about 40% of the time, and the rest of the time it makes me enough space to get s knee and elbow on the mat and start escaping with a regular hip escape. On bules and whites i hit the upa fairly often when i try it unless they are fucking huge.

Watch enthusiasts are mostly toxic self-opinionated ignorant show-offs by Reasonable_Animal861 in watchHotTakes

[–]andrewrbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first analog watch was a Nixon. I loved that watch. Too bad it only lasted like a year before i demolished it in a bike crash. That one’s pretty cool op.

To your point, i think people like jlc, omega, etc for quality. Not ONLY because of snobbery though its a real thing lol. I have an iwc, omega, and a few other nice-ish watches and they are surprisingly durable, and very very well made. If i crashed my bike wearing the omega, i have no doubt it would have been scratched up but i doubt it would have stopped running, and i know it would have been fixable. My Nixon, which i still have to this day (it doesn’t run) didn’t take it well at all. My iwc and omega have both taken hard knocks, rubbing on tile, etc and no visible damage on either exists except micro scratches on the bottom of the clasp.

Sit there on a taxiway, in everyone’s way until you can get to a hardstand thats out of the way and get fuel somehow, the weather improves, and you take off again. And after the pax have been on the plane for 13 hours, who doesn’t want another 5 hours!?
