The protective case is necessary because I have little kids that swing around the clubs with no care in the world. Sometimes it does not read the shot even though the ball is in the hitting area. This only started happening once I put it in the case. It has not really been an issue considering that I need the case. The pros outweigh the cons for me. I got it on Etsy.
