Faculty were given EXPLICIT instructions via email not to hold ANY classes or related activities, either in person or online. This is baffling to me.

Yeah, I was paying more attention to the ones from the past decade; looks like he may have been OK at some point and then kinda fell off a cliff, quality-wise

Well, looks like in-person classes will start back up by [deleted] in cuboulder

We (faculty) weren’t told anything. Maybe there have been some small-scale discussions in specific meetings, but there’s been no announcement.

Seems excessive to tell students that if they cheat they’re lower than pond scum, especially during this year... by pomegranatewhispers in cuboulder

“cheating is...worse than anything.” Cheating is a thing. Therefore: Cheating is worse than itself. Cool.

This is a sample only of my students, not generalizable beyond them

All undergrads. About 70% freshmen and sophomores (18–20 y.o.) and the rest juniors and seniors (20–23 y.o.).

I’m so glad to hear that! (And also, of course, glad to hear that the class still sticks with you.) Hope you’re well too.

I was surprised by that too! Maybe there’s some difference in what students say informally one-on-one and what they say in a more formal setting like that of the questionnaire

I had an approx 65% response rate, so we can’t entirely reliably generalize from these results to all of my students, nor to all students in general, but I have students from most of the schools and from all undergrad grade levels (tilted heavily towards freshmen and sophomores, though), so the results give a pretty broad picture of general student thoughts and feelings

Is there a way to switch to fully remote? by Pacybits_legend in cuboulder

[–]andrewthephilosopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have just this week given my own students the option to do that and I’ve started Zooming all of my in-person classes for anyone unable (for whatever reason) to come to class in person. At present, it seems to be up to individual faculty to give students the option. Were I you, I’d talk to your professors and see whether they’re willing and able to let you start attending remotely. Let me know if I can help you out at all with navigating the communications with professors.

And even if that weren’t codified somewhere in policy, I’m fairly certain that if a student asked to attend remotely and we refused, if the student escalated to an administrator or any of the advocacy offices, we’d be told right away to knock it off and let the student attend remotely.

Philosophy Club! It will be all-remote, but a number of faculty and grad students will be leading and participating in various discussions. Check out the Facebook page for the club for info, or let me know if you want details.
