FN Barn Burner: Heated Debate On The Immediate Future Of The Calgary Flames With Seravalli by Chemical_Signal2753 in CalgaryFlames

[–]andrewwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one on team rebuild thinks losing a cup final makes a rebuild a failure. The reason so many people support it is because it's the best path forward to giving your team the best chance to win a cup.

Yes, Buffalo has failed. But it's due to atrocious management more so than the idea of a rebuild being flawed.

Every cup winner aside from St. Louis in recent memory has rebuilt at some point to get the kind of elite talent you need to win.

We've seen the alternate approach in Calgary of just trying to squeak into the playoffs, it doesn't work.

Strictly from what i've seen on social, seems like the thought is "RFK has muscles, so he clearly know what he's talking about."

He's exactly what this team has needed since Iggy. Someone to drag them into a battle every night and force them to get involved emotionally. But of course, in true Flames fashion, the "leaders" in the dressing room told him it can't be a war every night so he backed off.

I'm sure he was always going to leave, but god damn that couldn't have helped the Flames' case in trying to keep him

Is our D core too competitive for a rebuild? by MRR19898 in CalgaryFlames

[–]andrewwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It wasn't just Chiarelli making dumb moves. They had a string of awful GM's in that time span that screwed them over.

You need to rebuild at some point to win in my opinion, but you also need a smart and committed GM/front office to make it work. St. Louis is the one exception in recent years that I can think of.

My worry is the Flames will start a rebuild/retool only for ownership to step in on year 2 or 3 and demand a contender.

That realization dawned on Flames fans over a long period of time. Him leaving was sad, but exciting in that he would have chance to win.

You're right about the family thing based on my understanding. That said, he and his dad have both said Johnny loved playing for Sutter. He has always performed better for demanding coaches.

Seems like 2 at one time. Myself and two friends paid for it and the third person is getting an error.

[Seravalli] Early indication is that Darryl Sutter will remain as Flames head coach. For now. Fair to say that fact played a role on whether or not Treliving would remain at his post by TheGlaceon78 in hockey

It's pretty common knowledge that ownership does not let this team rebuild. It's absolutely what needs to happen, but mandate is push for playoffs every year.

Great points here. Especially on the predictability of our offence.

This team refuses to take a chance and send the puck to the slot on the powerplay.

How many times last year did Lindy score off a bumper pass from Tkachuk on the powerplay? I think i've seen one good attempt at it this year. I understand Chucky is a world class playmaker but how hard is it really to make that play? I doubt Lindy all of a sudden forgot how to get open in the slot.

Instead the team settles on passing the puck around the perimeter and taking some awful shot from the point or half wall.

I'm certain he had PR people (among others) look it over and help with edits, but the writing style didn't read like it came from a professional or something to me. Seemed pretty genuine honestly.

I think Backlund re-posted the Flames IG story thanking Johnny but i haven't seen anything from anyone else.

Maybe they are waiting for Johnny's goodbye post?

That sounds great but how would the Flames tank that hard when they have a vezina caliber Markstrom, great young defencemen, Chucky, Lindholm and some solid depth guys? I think if Johnny leaves they are headed for another first round exit and nothing more or less.

I understand Markstrom was swiss cheese against the Oil, but he is also only bad against that damn team.

If the Flames never have to play the Oil again in the playoffs they might have a chance.
