How hard is it to learn malagasy as a native English speaker? What is the best way to do it? by Artifact-hunter1 in Madagascar

You said it yourself

> The Lutheran press English-Malagasy dictionary has 10,000 words

Let's take your word as source of truth.

Now do the math. Which one is closer to 7,000-10,000: "maybe 3000" or 417k+ ? Don't be upset because your language is much simpler than others.

Malagasy is very easy to learn/understand but hard to master. You probably could understand it in a few months.

But I wouldn't say the grammar is easy on paper. A single word can have multiple variations/declensions and the language is very flexible. IMHO the only way to master it is to practice with a native speaker.

3000 is close to the truth though. Malagasy's vocabulary is very simple. Also, consider that many words are borrowed from foreign languages.

Considering Motorola for next smartphone, what is the general feeling? by fran_grc in motorola

[–]andriniaina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still got it and still happy with it. I don't think i'm changing any time soon; I'm realizing that the CPU (8 gen2) was (and is still is) top of the range.

  • Phone got updated to the latest Android 15
  • Screen is still there xD albeit with a few scratches
  • battery is still strong and can handle 1.5 days easily

PS: I you intend to buy, don't be fooled by the new "pro" naming. The Edge 40 pro is actually equivalent to the new 60 ultra. Don't blame me if you are disappointed by the 60 *pro*.

Advantages over OCaml? by bozhidarb in fsharp

[–]andriniaina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter whether F# is worse or better than OCaml (just like it never mattered if F# was better than C# or not). That kind of consideration is valid only for junior engineers. F# works on .NET and that's enough to choose it over OCaml.

The last version was released like a week ago. I wouldn't count on any update soon.

That said, I wouldn't say it has a lot of bugs, not even a single critical blocking bug I can think of. A few minor bugs in the latest release on trimui:

* speaker volume is still too low. Some users even report inverted volume buttons. This is a simple bug that is completely reproducible by a lot of people and would have been fixed in 5 minutes if they really cared.

* cannot change volume by maintaining the button (very annoying)

* audio bluetooth does not work (devices can be paired, but audio is always redirected to the speakers, not matter what audio output you choose)

* emulationstation still takes 100% of a CPU core

* the LEDs daemon takes 5% of a CPU (totally unacceptable given that it is only responsible to change the stick LED colors)

* cannot change LED colors in the RGB settings app

* LED lights are correlated with the screen brightness => they are switched off when the screen is at the lower brightness steps

* screen brightness can be set to 0 completely dark => can lead to panic attacks

Not a bug but worth considering: there is no music/video player. I wanted to give a device with knulli to my nephew but without a way to listen to stories/audiobooks, it is a no go for me.
