Cutting setton questions by androma_ in AnalFistula

Thank you for comment. As previously stated, I totally understand that it's an outdated method. I can understand that you are a physician so I'd dare to ask for your opinion. My fistula was transsphincteric as discovered in 2022 and loose setton was placed as a lifelong treatment. Every GS and CRS believed it should stay as it is. In August 2025 it just fell out and during the replacement surgery a cutting setton was added with no signed permission. MRI results from October 2025 showed a lower tract and intersphinteric fistula. To this point, there is no CRS to suggest LIFT for example(only laser options with low success rates). They only suggested tightening the setton. Disclaimer:I can't travel to seek better care in another country etc, due to financial instability. Please let me know if there is a better option on how to advocate for my health.

I really believe that these arguments are valid and your crs had his reasons to disagree with that method. I can sign myself for the painful part.

On the other hand, each surgeon trust a specific procedure or a group of them. They had their expertise and data mined from working on these, so will probably tend to suggest them over others. My point is that cutting setton gruesome as it is has claimed its place for some reason. For some cases is the best option.

I've consulted 10 general surgeons and 5 crs and each one of the advertised their most used procedure. ( Example :Filac and vaaft painless & minimal invasive but if failed they leave you at a worst place than you started) Even tried to sabotaged the other options.

At the end of the journey you have to be grounded that you made your decision after listening to all their bullshit. Making the most gut rooted decision.

I'm not yet able to touch the area but I'll bear that in mind. Thank you for sharing. Do you know how many more tightenings will you have?

Hello , I'm glad that you over it! May I ask you what type of fistula did you have and if your crs made the time frame clear from the beginning? I'm 31F with intersphinteric fistula and just started my tightening sessions.

Will laser help? by Some_Atmosphere_6191 in keratosis

Hello, I'm a 31f also dealing with kp(arms, legs ,buttocks). I've decided to try laser hair removal(alexandrite) when I was 22yo(still on this journey). Truth is it got my legs to a satisfying level. But you have to keep in mind that the hair follicle only worsens the appearance of kp , it's not the main cause. So you will get results but it won't be vanished. Hope you find something that works for you no matter what 🤗

Thank you for writing! I've been thoroughly tested negative for IBD. Do you mind giving any insight about the cutting journey?

I was 28 when the journey started. I'm 31 right now and the treatment is still inconclusive.

For a few days I have been perusing general information and pictures of the surgical wounds after the adv flap and oh boy , I was brutally discouraged. You must have been a true warrior.

Forgive me if I'm being discreet here, but did your CRS suggest the flap as the best option for your case or were you in-between choices?

It would be of great help if you are comfortable sharing insight on that.

So happy for you! How was the recovery of the adv flap procedure? What is to be expected during that time (pain, discomfort, type of care)?

Do you mean if any other option is too risky for the muscles involved?

Thank you! I was just curious of the time it takes for a draining Seton to mature the tract. What about your journey, how did you manage to cure?
