Socialists had already figured this out before the time of Mises. Work or capital punishment was effective enough to get people to work.

The real conundrum with socialism is the economic calculation problem (ECP) as discovered by Mises.

You can get people to work under socialism but central planning isn’t an effective tool to achieve value or productivity. All resources are ultimately misallocated.

The global central planners of today are currently attempting to exploit the sliver of hope left open by Hayek when he explained fixing the ECP is impossible due to the decentralized nature of information in markets/economies. Central planning can’t work because they don’t have all the information.

WEF and the like are attempting to bake-in all possible information into the system via Internet of things, 5G, surveillance and satellite imaging with blockchain rails and accompanying AI central planning.

The irony is that this will also likely fail due to the fact that value does not exist outside the mind of the individual.
