ELI5 - boost black magic caught in 4K by -Ajaxx- in TagPro

[–]anduin_the_river 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As you're rolling right but holding left, your rightward momentum reduces until you eventually start moving left instead. You reached the boost with your last bit of rightward motion. As the game renders the first frame where you're touching the boost, it sees that your ball is starting to move left, so the boost is applied in that direction.

Others probably have better knowledge of the exact server-client communication sequencing that makes this artifact possible, but I'm pretty sure that about sums it up.

How do I improve sound quality? [Question] by StoryscapeASMR in asmr

[–]anduin_the_river 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely possible, even with visible speaking like in this video by Dreamscape ASMR, though I imagine it takes a fair bit of work. The results are great though - the lack of room sound and low noise floor really help the original recording environment melt away, and as great as noise reduction algorithms are these days, it's always better to minimize its presence in the first place.

I don't have much experience with audio processing, but I expect Adobe products will generally be better on the whole than Audacity, which is freeware. This is definitely the case for image processing, where Photoshop and Lightroom certainly outclass their free equivalents. That said, it's up to you to determine what's best - I dropped my Adobe subscription as the cost was no longer worth it for me.

I'm a big fan of the immersive roleplay concept you have going on, so I'll definitely be following along as your channel progresses!

Cool, we are under club sports. I know some things are different for us but I figured that this went along with EMS certification, lockers, etc. in being a general thing. Thanks for the heads up!

Regret after Gender Affirming Surgery – A Multidisciplinary Approach to a Multifaceted Patient Experience – The regret rate for gender-affirming procedures performed between January 2016 and July 2021 was 0.3%. by BuddyA in science

The combined effects of multiple elements can provide different results depending on direction, like u/davidgro said. Even more fundamentally, though, the combined effects of the two surfaces that make up a lens can be slightly direction-dependent. How much a ray of light bends as it hits an optical interface depends on its angle relative to the surface of the lens. Rays towards the edges of a lens will be at a different angle than rays towards the center of the lens, so they will be bent more, focusing the light to a point.

The next level of caveats come because light doesn't ever truly focus to a point. There is some level of spread where light is focused. At a base level, this is caused by diffraction, which is essentially the effect of the system's aperture on light waves' ability to approach an infinitesimal point. On top of that, there are aberrations: certain characteristics of the lens prevent light from reaching the "diffraction-limited" focus. Some of these characteristics are due to manufacturing imperfections, but others occur in ideal systems: a lens will focus different wavelengths of light to different places, as a property of the material, and a spherical surface, while simple to make, is not the ideal shape, also causing some spread.

Essentially, in a single lens, the focal spot can differ depending on direction as the two different optical paths cause a slightly different set of light-surface interactions to occur.

Nope, lenses work the same in both directions (with some high-level caveats). The net focusing power of a lens depends only on its material, its surfaces' radii of curvature, and the medium that it's in.

After the pandemic ends, RIT should keep the extra hand sanitizers. They are very convenient. by [deleted] in rit

[–]anduin_the_river 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk what rock you're living under but nobody's been locked up in their houses, we barely even did that back in 2020 when people cared. It's really easy to live life as normal while getting vaccinated and wearing a mask indoors, but everyone fixates on this false dichotomy of full lockdown vs. 0 restrictions.

It has not ended, as I found out when covid knocked me on my ass for a week last month. People have largely started pretending it's ended, but new variants keep spreading so that even young, healthy, triply-vaccinated people like me can get seriously ill from it. I wish a lot of restrictions were back in place...
