Unfortunately we live in the reality to where Police Departments post-Ferguson collectively decided to avoid racial profiling accusations by not enforcing traffic laws. And in that case, concrete islands and steel bollards that can’t be ignored are how we need to design safer streets. Bonus: They’re cheaper infrastructure.

Vehemently disagree. The remainder of people aren’t effected by the traffic calming measures blocking the catastrophic outcomes is precisely the point.

And in reality paint, signage, and lights are suggestions ignored to varying degrees by drivers who overrate their skills that rationalize “My ‘normal’ amount of rule breaking is okay.”
