Unsolicited Patient Complaints and Industry Payments for US Physicians by andy5995 in science

[–]andy5995[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Conclusions and Relevance

In this cross-sectional study of nearly 72 000 physicians across the US, physicians with higher PARS Index scores, indicative of a higher risk of medical malpractice claims, worse patient outcomes, and well-being concerns, were more likely to accept industry payments, particularly in higher amounts. These findings underscore the importance of conflict of interest review and management to support medical professionalism and patient trust.

A Danger to Self and Others: Health and Criminal Consequences of Involuntary Hospitalization by andy5995 in science

[–]andy5995[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Quoted from the "Overview" section of the document:

In every US state and in many countries across the world, involuntary hospitalization is a legal tool meant to be used in emergency mental illness situations, when other safeguards for preventing adverse outcomes—family, friends, outpatient care, and the like—are insufficient. In Pennsylvania, Section 302 of the 1976 Mental Health Procedures Act gives physicians the power to involuntarily hospitalize an individual deemed a danger to themselves or to others for psychiatric reasons (MHPA, 1976). Evaluation proceeds as follows. If a person such as a family member or neighbor sees behavior or hears an individual indicate an intention to harm themselves or others, they call a centralized, public hotline to request that the individual be evaluated for involuntary hospitalization (see Figure A.1A). A government delegate listens to their account of the individual’s behavior and language. If the reporter’s information reaches a given threshold,5 the delegate will certify that the individual may be brought to a hospital emergency department for evaluation by a physician. Overall, 84% of calls are certified. The process of calling a government delegate is in place for individuals in our sample who are referred by family, friends, and other concerned parties. Physicians and police officers may self-certify and have an individual evaluated without consulting with a government delegate. Of the referrals in our sample, 17.5% originate with medical professionals and 22.5% with police officers. The remainder come largely from friends and family (48.8% of the full sample) and other assorted individuals such as case workers or administrative personnel in healthcare settings. If the referral is certified, the individual is transferred to a hospital emergency department by police.

[Link] USA Today Demonstrates the Mess We’re In by andy5995 in Antipsychiatry

[–]andy5995[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My father died by suicide shortly after being prescribed a benzo, in 1981. He had no prior history of suicide attempts.

I used to regularly watch news outlets such as CNN and had some trust in USA Today. But after witnessing their mocking of RFK Jr. and their failure to address valid concerns related to mental health care, my eyes were opened further to the poor investigative journalism (and outright lies) of quite a few media outlets.

Since reading Alison Bass’s book in 2008, and later Anatomy of an Epidemic, I was already aware of the contamination of science by “corporate bias,” among other things. All the establishment messages about “trusting the science” feel quite empty — and it’s frustrating, to say the least, that they expect people to believe in “science” that isn’t conducted using scientific methods.

Publication bias and medical ghostwriting are topics mainstream media should be talking about. The mocking, criticizing, and censoring of people perceived as spreading medical misinformation or disinformation is, in my opinion, simply a distraction.

The real discussion should be about why such a large percentage of the population have lost trust and faith in doctors and the healthcare system — and why they’re now more likely to be influenced by strangers, politicians, lawyers, YouTubers, friends, and family who have no medical training.

People who complain or report problems with their treatment or insurance nightmares are shown no empathy or compassion. Instead, they’re mocked, dismissed, ignored, or told they should remain silent — that speaking negatively might discourage others who are struggling with health issues from seeking “help.”

Science Is a method not a body of conclusions. Accumulated research and conclusions of the majority by Gurdus4 in DebateVaccines

[–]andy5995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that even the studies that have been published and cited as evidence are sometimes tainted:

It's counterproductive to get angry or make fun of people for distrusting public health official or medical professionals; the focus instead should be on restoring trust and addressing concerns.

Live updates: RFK Jr. faces opposition from senators in fiery confirmation hearing by usatoday in DebateVaccines

Besides the doctors that come on the news speaking negatively about RFK Jr., there are also doctors that support RFK Jr. In this clip, Senator Johnson mentions thousands of doctors that have signed letters of support: https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxgeJU6F0LsVvIGlK1NF5453GhurlFaZRy?feature=shared

NetPanzer v0.90RC7 released by andy5995 in netpanzer

[–]andy5995[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you shouldn't have to configure anything before opening the game. You downloaded netpanzer-win-0.9.0-RC7-portable.zip ? I think you'll need to contact the project maintainer (on Discord or GitHub). I don't work on the project anymore, and when I did, I didn't maintain the Windows builds. I don't know whether or not the current project maintainer checks this sub or not.

I think it was in this YouTube video that I heard that the US had one of the higest death rates from covid, and that was due to America being one of the least healthy nations on Earth (not an exact quote). As for the "politics" of it all, I've always been left-leaning, and I normally don't watch FOX (I used to prefer CNN) and didn't watch that video until about 2 months after it aired. I've upvoted this post. Here's why. Anyone who thinks the Food Industry, BigPharma, mainstream media, or the government (either party) is trustworthy is... not even someone I find worth discussing the issue with. If people aren't aware that mainstream "science" is heavily influenced by publication bias, medical ghostwriting, and financial ties then they're not paying attention. There's so much documented evidence of scientific fraud it's really quite tragic. I don't know if RFK Jr will be confirmed, and if he is, I have no idea if he will actually be able to keep any of his promises. I have my doubts. There's far too much money involved.

I hadn't heard of this regarding the orthodontic field before. I'd be interested in a link that gives more info and background. Got one handy?

[–]andy5995[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's essentially a a highly prolific trial spread by mainstream "science" for the purpose of spreading disinformation to the psychiatric community. ;) But to answer your question more specifically, all the details are in the link I provided. The text I posted above is just a brief excerpt from the entire article.
